Sony or Onkyo

Sabin
I've said this before on many threads. Sony is a nice consumer level audio/video giant. Great products at reasonably attractive price points. Onkyo on the other hand are audiophile category (Of course that's a very wide category in terms of price points and sophistication!) More recently, they've created some fantastic entry level models like the 3200 and 3300 which take the war right into Sony/Samsung/LG territory.
I'd say go for the Onkyo 3300. You will not regret it!

onkyo all the way.. lots of connectivity options.. supports HD audio decoding.. ready to use with entry level BD players.. speakers can be upgraded later on.. :)

Thanks everyone..
There is 5000rs price difference btw these models. I heard the demo of Onkyo and Sony. I felt Sony had good bass since its RMS is 142w. Onkyo on the other hand had an awesome surround effect and also its bass was even impressive though its rms is only 130w.
So does RMS actually matters a lot. Sony has got total power of 1000w and Onkyo's is just 660w.
Iam looking for a system which can be used for both Music n Movies.with a Very good BASS(Bass freak:D)

Instead of taking everyone's opinion and then buying the kit based on the number of votes, here's a different perspective - how about auditioning the Sony and Onkyo kit yourself and buying what you prefer. :D After all, you're the one who is going to have to watch/listen to it, not us. :)

Philips. The Onkyo HTIBs have great receivers and rubbish speakers. Philips has inferior electronics but superior speakers. Overall, the Philips HTIBs sound better than the Onkyo ones that I have heard.

Had gone to check out a 26" LED TV for my friend & incidentally was able to audition the onkyo & sony at the same shop. Also read about your requirement for bass & yet again am of the same opinion, Sony will work for you better....
Only thing against sony is that if you want to upgrade your ht you have to junk the whole sony htib..... it cannot be mixed & matched.

Thanks everyone..

Sir,

SONY : Inflated power ratings . Much of the power is used by the woofer. Beyond certain volume woofer SQ will be boomy. Total absence of midrange.
At higher volume for longer period ear get fatigued.

Onkyo : Not good for music. Will be lacking in high frequencies ( given speakers does not support ) . Speakers can be upgraded.

Choice of selection is yours if your budget is restricted and if no idea of upgradation.
What ever be ones choice in these situations , he will repent in future for not choosing the other.

Regards

Iam again confused seeing the last two comments :)
I dont want to repent in future for not choosing the other one. Iam thinking of going for Onkyo. But the saddest part is there is still no Onkyo 3300 available hre for audition, thaz the reason i was seeking suggestions from u guyz.

Hi Sabin,

I have purchased 3300 from mordern world 3 weeks back. It is great VFM. Though I feel fronts needs upgrade, which will be done later. If calibrated properly, will give good output at lower volume.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
