Sony Receiver gets heat so much

I had a Yamaha earlier which used to get pretty hot, especially in the summer. Enough space, especially above and behind, for ventilation and heat dissipation is vital.

I have been using Sony AVR with a .500 kva step down transformer and the heat issue is normal only. If you think of taking it to service centre, changing the SDT, then your wallet also will face the heat but your AVR never gets cooled down.

It is normal for AVRs to generate some heat but how much vary highly between models based on their design. I think you are fine as long as you do not smell anything strange coming out of it or can touch it without much discomfort.

Your speakers seem to be 8 Ohms so that should not be taxing your AVR to generate extra heat.

I find my receiver a bit more hotter in summer due to the increased ambient temperature when not running my aircon. In the end, you are the only one knowing how hot it really gets so you are the best judge.

As suggested do keep an eye on it and yes ambient temperature has a role to play. If you do want to keep an eye on it, get a contactless IR thermometer and keep a record of how much the temperature rise is viz-a-viz ambient temperature.

Thanks hdmaniac and blackhorn for your replies.

I will let you know the status of what time is getting heat and how much it delivers heat.

Thanks a lot again.

Service guys told that this normal for all the sony receivers.

Did you check this with Sony service center India... Don't trust there words as this product is not even aval in India... By all probabilities it might be a generic answer...

You can trust actual feedback from Forum member who had already provided in previous posts...

I have been using the Sony AVR without any sort of issue and I can say that you do not need to touch the AVR ( except front side) to feel the heat but just keeping the hand near to the body is enough to feel the heat.

It is all depends upon each brand and product. My Yamaha a-s500 keeps its cool and never heats up even after it sings continuously for 2 hours.

Hi guys,

Thank you very much for all your support and suggestions. Today I watched 2 movies continuously. Still the receiver stays in the same heat level (Not low but a medium heat). Volume level was 30. Never opened the doors and windows and never turned the AC on so far. Now continuing 3rd movie with a little break.

Earlier I had HTB. This is my first AV Receiver so it could be the reason about the fear of the heat coming out the receiver.

Thank you very much for the special suggestion guys.

Another good news !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just read the user manuals with the receiver where they have mentioned that the receiver will run on some heat and if you run it more than hour then it will heat a lot on top, bottom and left side of the receiver. Though it is not a malfunction.

This is what they have mentioned in the manual. I forgot to read it guys. Sorry for it.

Anyway I have got all your good suggestions and helps.

I am really happy that my receiver is not a defective one.

Thank you very much for all your support.
