Congrats on ur new purchase... Good to see the Sony AVR ..whats the price in India.. I think it is the whathifi 2014 -5 star rated product..how's the experience..

Thank you Rajith for your comments.

It is not available in India. I bought it through Amazon.com. Costs around 58K including shipping and import duties.

Sound output is really awesome. More detailed sound in both movie and music.

Local sony service centers are accepting services but there is no warranty applicable here. We have to pay for it.

You can try the FMs regarding your AVR service. They will help you.

Hey guys!
Sony has the WORST support in the world and their "tech support" people are a joke; *I've wasted 6 weeks time trying to get an answer and even Tech Support 2 can't figure it out! *I am HOPING you guys can give me an actual solution that works.

My setup: *
KDL-70W850B *TV
STR-DN1050 *AVR

I have a Hi-speed HDMI cable connected to the ARC channel of both devices.

My issue:
I play MKV movies (with DTS, DTS HD, or Dolby Digital 5.1 audio streams) from a USB stick that is plugged into my TV. *When playing movies that have Dolby Digital 5.1, my TV says Dolby Digital, the Dolby Digital symbol lights up on the AVR display and I can tell it's playing true 5.1 surround sound. GOOD!

BUT, when playing movies with DTS or DTS HD, my TV says DTS Surround, my AVR's display says Linear PCM, then the Dolby PL symbol lights up, and it is NOT 5.1 surround sound. *BAD!

I want the DTS or DTS HD symbol to light up on my AVR display and to have it play properly with true 5.1 surround. *PLEASE HELP!

Here are the settings I've tried:
TV: *
Settings/Sound/Speakers --> Audio System
Settings/Sound/Headphone or Audio Out --> Audio Out

Settings/Sound/Sound Adjustments/Surround Effect --> (not sure about this setting, I think it is at +6)
Settings/Sound/Sound Adjustments/Sound Mode --> Cinema*
Settings/Sound/Sound Adjustments/Auto Surround --> On

AVR:
Settings/HDMI/Control for HDMI --> On
Settings/HDMI/Audio Out --> AMP

Settings/Audio Settings/Sound Field --> have tried both HD DCS as well as AFD Auto

Input = TV
Options/Input (Auto, Optical, ???) --> Auto

Since you are playing 5.1 file from TV,make sure TV sends audio correctly to AVR.
Some TVs do not support 5.1 out over optical.Some TV can with ARC.

Correct, I think your TV doesn't have DTS pass through. Hence it decodes signal itself. And sends PCM decoded signals to AVR.

I have Sony str dn 850. It decodes DTS, DTS HD, DTS HD MA flawlessly.

I hope if you use ARC it will work.

Just give a try because you have a latest LED TV which must have a dolby digital out with the ARC. Just double check and then turn on your ARC setting in the TV, as u said turn ON HDMI control in the receiver and check.

And unfortunately you got such an experience from the support team. Hope for the best.

My TV is already connected to the AVR using HDMI to ARC.

Before I bought my STR-DN1050, I had a Pioneer home theatre in a box. The Home Theatre in a box was connected to the same TV via digital Optical cable. With that previous set up, DTS was playing fine.

Right now, when my TV plays the movie file, it SAYS DTS Surround on the screen. Doesn't that mean that my TV is outputting DTS 5.1?

I am already using an ARC connection between my KDL70W850B and STRDN1050.

If my TV doesn't have DTS pass through, is there a way I can send a bitstream signal to my receiver so that the receiver does the sound processing?

Or any other suggestions on how I can get my set up to work?

I already use ARC.

Correct, Dolby Digital 5.1 plays FINE via ARC to my STR DN1050. It is DTS that doesn't work.

Any idea how I can turn on my ARC setting with my KDL70W850B?

Just check TV manual so that any special setting can send as 5.1 PCM.
If TV cant decode DTS,then no luck.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
