SONY W700B....Any views?

I don't know anyone personally who have purchased from the distributor. I got his reference from one of my friends and he too (like me) purchased from Barons.

Extended warranty depends on screen size. I've not explored how much is it for 46" yet. For 42", it's 5k.

What is the difference between the w700b and w700a? Can the reviews of the 700b be taken to hold good for the 700a too?

I just get a quote of 42.9K with 0% finance for six months for w700b in Kolkata, guys is it a good price to buy it??
Also the showroom guy was suggesting Toshiba PT200 @26k with mixer free?? Confused which one to buy. Not very keen for a Toshiba TV :-P

32" is B and 42" is A. It's just size and hardware and everything is same.

The w700a is 46". The w700b is newly launched and available in 32 and 42. Was primarily looking at 42" w700b but was tempted by the 46" w700a. Couldn't find any reviews for the w700a so needed to find if the hdtvtest review if w700b would hold good for the w700a too.
On the side, the wife bought me back to my senses and so sticking on with the 42" , but still undecided between the e6d and w700b. Hdtvtest reviews for both equally good.

Did a checkout of 42W700 yesterday in 3 showrooms. Strictly HD channels - in both sports, movies, and serials, I found W700 to be lacking in clarity and sharpness. In close-ups, skins are all smudged up. Did a side by side comparison with Samsung F5500, and on the clarity and sharpness, F5500 was better. But I don't like samsung's colour rendering.

This is just a first level checkout with HD channels, not enough data points. I was very keen on W700, but this lack of clarity/sharpness/details in normal HD channels was heart-breaking.

Will do further checkout in coming weeks.

I was confused too, but more inclined towards the 42E6d. Took a demo of L42ET60D and was stunned by the PQ. Didn't demo Sony afterwards, bought the Et60D for 64k yesterday. Do take a demo, you get good 3D and IPS panel for extra 10-12k. Despite being IPS blacks don't suffer on this TV for some reason.

yes sony keeps noise filtering setting high.. so skins look smudged .. i also found samsung more sharper than sony in showrooms.. and same like u i liked sony colors than samsung..

but u can tweak sony settings later to remove face smudges ..i will post settings soon.

One needs to adjust the settings of both tv to get an accurate assessment, once they are adjusted to their optimum levels one will hardly find any noticeable difference.

While this is true, my observation was with the factory default setting both the sets were running on. Most of folks who buy these TVs would never calibrate them, so the default factory setting should be balanced.

Compared W700B with L42E6D today. Same panel on both (AMVA). Both HD and SD content was better in L42E6D compared to W700B. As @deep_g pointed out, clarity and sharpness was missing in W700B.

The bezel of W700B was really hot. Is it because of edge led?

I don't want to point this out but I was all hell bent on the 42E6D for 53K, I took a demo of L42ET60D and was blown away by its IQ. I don't know what makes the panel of ET60D better than E6D, its just an IPS whereas the E6D is a VA? (dont know). I saw the W700B as well. It definitely has superb blacks and rich colours but I went with the ET60D for 64K. For extra 11k I got much better PQ and 3D :ohyeah: This panel has a 600mhz refresh rate (or whatever it is called) when switched on some movies look very realistic/and fluidy ...... the PQ is somewhat like a halfass Plasma. Even though this TV has mild motion blur I liked it.
Prices are from Delhi/NCR.

remove noise filtering in sony .. what sony is trying to do is .. when realistic hd is presented .. on face .. we can see pimples , dots ..

so sony keeps noise filtering on ..and faces looks smudged due to it ..

i too dont like it

also sony keeps sharpness = 50 .. samsung keeps = 0

and this settings dont suit for hd ..it suits for blurays..

sony smulates settings for bluray by default .. samsung for indian channels

i will post best settings for sony soon.

where in ncr did you got that price?
One of the members said pana doesnt offer warranty on panel and motherboard..any idea about that? whats the additional warranty charge,if you took?

If there's no warranty on panel or A-board, what's the point of getting an extended warranty? These are the two main parts of a flat panel TV.

Well, been busy the whole week so didnt find the time to write. I see quite a few people expressing interest in buying this TV, so here is my two cents.
Lets start with the looks. Subjective, as they say, but the minimalist looks of the TV appeals very much to my aesthetics. I was never one for silver or chrome anyway. The bezel is thin, and around the edges it has a metal finish which feels good to the touch. The thin LED strip below the Sony logo can be customized to light up or not, and I have turned it off permanently. The TV has a separate power brick, which might not go down well with some people. The main issue I have is with the stand, where clearly Sony has done cost-cutting. It is functional alright, but looks tacky.
Setting up was a breeze, and the TV detected my wifes Xperia Z wifi network in no time. Screen mirroring works fantastic, and Angry Birds and Asphalt looked stunning on a 42 screen. Be warned though, the TV couldnt , and as of writing this, has still not been able to detect my iPhone network (guess everything is an issue with Apple).
One of the initial things I did was try to ascertain if there is any backlight bleed issues, and must say that in a totally darkened room, I was happy with the uniformity of the screen. Played GTA V, and the PQ was outstanding. I got hold of some settings from avforums (wil post link later), and toyed around till it looked good to my eyes. Currently playing The Last of Us, and must say it feels like a new game altogether with this display. I play with all lights off, usually around 11 to 2 every night, and the black levels are excellent. Lots of sections in TLoU are in dark areas, and the level of detail is great. To gamers out there, a big thumbs-up to this TV. Watched The Dark Knight and Blood Diamond blurays, and again with all lights off the depth and vibrancy of the picture was excellent. Colours look very slightly over-saturated, but frankly I dont mind. I like the picture.
To the average person looking to upgrade to a 42 with no need for 3D and other frills, this TV is a great buy, but the price could be bargained to 59-60k as per some members.
Other than the price factor, if someone is on the wall with this TV, I would say definitely go ahead and buy it.
