Hello Guys :)

I'm looking to buy a TV for my parents and following are the requirements

1. Supreme PQ
2. Full HD
3. Good SD display.
4. Size should be >= 40" as the living room is quite big. For more information, living room is not brightly lit even in the daytime.
5. 3D and Smart TV features are optional
6. Budget is max 1L and min 70k.
7. Mostly watched channels are movie, drama and sports oriented in SD format. Of course, I'll will switch to HD later, but still most of the channels are in SD format only as we all know.

I did some research and I found Plasma TV's to be fitting to my above requirements and I went to Panasonic show room in Chennai. I looked S60, UT50 and GT50. Though, I liked the TV's and they are within my budget I'm afraid about IR and whether my parents would take proper care of it and also about Plasma TV's future & Panasonic's staying power. So, I rejected Plasma, inspite of Panasonic's tempting 3 years warranty. But, I still wish to buy a plasma TV for me :D as I'm a movie buff and have nearly 1TB movies. It's later and not now.

OK, coming to LED TV's, I went to Samsung showroom and was very impressed with 46F8000, but it's way over my budget and I'm not very impressed with 46F550. Is there any other good Samsung TV meeting my above requirements?

I read lot of good things about Sony HX850 and I zeroed in on W900A 40" as it's successor of HX850 and I guess it fits most of my requirements. Now, W800A 47" is nearly about the same price as W900A and price of HX850 46" may also be slashed, I guess (if it's still available). Should I got to bigger W800A/HX850 or better W900A? Or is there any other TV that I missed which fit's my requirement.

Guidance needed. Please help me out guys...

At 90 K, you will get 47 inch W800 but 40 inch w900. So the cost is not same.
W900 is in the premium segment. It has different panel and local dimming. If cost is not issue, then W900 (40 inch) or w950( 47 inch) is way to go.

If you are looking to buy another TV (presumably large screen plasma), I will suggest that you setup the current TV in your parent's bedroom. I suppose in the bedroom 40" will be sufficient.

W900/W950 is Sony's premium segment. Very good, nay excellent, TV. You may wish to evaluate whether you wish to spend for this TV. As stated above 40" will be 90K while 46" will cost you around 130K (Sony does not do much discounts). I think that the W800 is nearly as good. I think that your parents would be more than satisfied with it. Check out the Samsung 6 and 7 series models also which as just as good (if not better).

That's entirely your call. Demo both 47w800 and 40W900 and see if the bigger picture size of w800 outweighs the excellent picture quality but small in size pic of w900. Choice will naturally vary from person to person.

Thanks for the suggestions. Didn't get a chance to see W900A yet..so still undecided  Meanwhile, keeping the options open for Samsung LED and Panny Plasma as well :)

W9 series all the way. Too good. You may please visit a Sony Centre where they will have this model along with W8. Compare side by side.

Just now had a demo of them both, W9 wins all the way in terms of PQ and colour production. Colours are so natural and in the demo video. The red colour of the small girl apart from the strawberries in another scene was actually showing correct red. Which was a bit orange+red when seen on W800.

W9 is also better than HX850 for sure. The entire panel itself is just 12-15mm glass only. Too sleek.
