Speakers for Onkyo SR508 Receiver

what are the known issues with 508 with video scalling?

Onkyo 508 neither have video upscaling nor upconversion.

well, i can only dream of such a price at the place where i live! here, my onkyo dealer has quoted me 508 + 728 (with a generous discount) @ 59k!!!! he said the actual selling price is 67k!!!!!

Please change your location from India to your nearest city. this will help others to make suggestions.

Why don't you upgrade the receiver to 608 instead of spending 7k on 2 speakers.

608 is way better than 508 and it will be a worthwhile, you can add the speakers any day, but the core components are not bought every now and then, right?

Where are you located?

What will he do with the receiver without speakers?

@baijuxavior: The suggestion revolves getting a better amp instead of being deployed to upgrade the speakers to a 7.1 setup.

I'm also travelling on the same boat and thought of starting another thread but then it would have been redundant. So, thought of writing it in here.

I have an Onkyo 508 with HT528 5.1 speakers, but not happy with the sound reproduction.

Will a Warfedale 9.2 fronts make any good with this receiver. I can use the current onkyo fronts for front high connection for use with Dolby prologic IIz.

warfedale 9.2 is 100watts and the receiver outputs 160watts, so will there be any damage to the speakers???

Thanks.

I was searching and searching and finally like the Polk Audio RTi A3 which is a 150watts bookshelf speakers available for 22,000 (MRP) a pair. The speakers are 8ohms and the 508 receiver is 6ohms, so will there be a problem?

Anybody has this combination or any comments on the speakers...

You Onkyo Receiver will support the Impedance of 6ohms - 16ohms. 6 is the minimum range. 8 ohms is perfect.;)

I recently started on a very similar journey, just with a different amp.
One thing to keep in mind when deciding on their bookshelf's is longevity or what you hope will be a good amount of time the speakers will last you before you might find the need to upgrade again.

Having said that, in a blind test, with a 5.1 amp, a few of us found it very difficult to tell apart Wharfe's 9.1's and Quads. That's not saying that the Quads are not mind blowing. They are. And they definitely warrant the higher price you'll be paying for them when compared to the WD. But in a blind test, you'll most often than not be able to tell which ones you prefer.

The WD's held their own as well and that's why I ended uppicking up a pair myself cause I know my room dynamics will change in a couple of years and I am willing to wait it out till then treading the middle path of price and performance.
