Spotify to offer lossless streaming service

what happens to Spotify connect in devices? They are already capable of hires playback or an update is needed?

It's still only speculation...

But yes, Spotify seems to be inching towards a HiRes streaming roll out.

Spotify mp3s sound better than the competition, so I am eagerly awaiting ...

It was awaited since long , it may be finally here soon : As per newspaper reports today:

Interesting! Looks to be a very decent chance of it happening from the article.
If it does happen, there's a good chance that Spotify would dominate the music streaming business.

For me Spotify Connect and their algorithms are easily some of the best.

.

I am an Apple Music subscriber but to me, Spotify had done the most spot on suggestions of bands or tracks that I ended up liking. Like many of us, I had tried all other platforms before and nothing matches Spotify in terms of library and sugggestion algorithm.

Yup this applies to me as well. I currently have Apple Music, Tidal & Spotify. I have Playlists synced between all three - Spotify being the primary playlist - the other 2 just being copies.

Whenever I need to explore - Spotify it is.

Chander, how do you sync the playlists ? Is there a tool or service ?

Spotify Lossless = Crying wolf

I shall believe it when I see it on my phone… working.

I’d like to prove a bit into this. Let’s assume Spotify mp3 sounds better than competition (even though that’s debatable). Now, how’d that translate into better lossless? Because unlike mp3, lossless quality isn’t decided by the quality of your compression algorithms. Are you implying that Spotify uses different (and better) source material than the competition?

Well, considering that Tidal Connect (playing lossless) is already there on the same devices, an updated Spotify Connect (for lossless) should work too.

Talk to any Spotify user, and they’ll rave on about the kind of personalization the app provides. When it comes to playlists, Spotify is the king. Although Spotify doesn’t offer a lossless tier at the moment, music streams at a standard 320 kbps bitrate. This is good enough for most users, a deal breaker for most audiophiles however.

FWIW... The File Formats Spotify streams to its customers:

Audio file formats for Spotify

Deliver your audio files to us in FLAC or WAV format (we highly recommend FLAC).

When we get your audio files, we do the following:

  • Check they aren’t corrupt and the format container is known
  • Transcode the file into different delivery formats for our audio quality options:
    • Ogg/Vorbis (96, 160, 320 kbps)
    • AAC (128, 256 kbps)
    • HE-AACv2 (24kbps)
  • Calculate the loudness of the whole release and individual tracks using the ITU 1770 standard
We also encrypt the audio files before they’re delivered to the platform.
