Stereo Integrated Amplifier required

+1 Soulforged.

Agree, it's difficult to say the amp is the culprit. I have a Yamaha A-S1000 paired to Tannoy Mercury V4 and I initially had a Denon CDP for a source. I did feel that the sound was quite sharp and tonal/tends to cause listening fatigue after a while.

I then replaced the source with a Marantz CDP6004, there was a noticeable improvement in the sound and harshness/tonality had reduced a fair bit and I can even say there was more bass to the sound now.

It's a fair assessment to say that the entire chain contributes albeit to different degrees.

To soulforged's suuggestion, I had the opportunity of getting hold of a Lyrita Audio 2A3SET tube amp that a friend loaned to me for a few weeks and the harshness/sharpness had completely gone and the sound was much more relaxed and more involving, with the source and speakers / interconnects all remaining the same.

I really enjoyed the tube amp, but at the same time I felt that it was more suited to slow numbers than to fast paced / dancy tunes that the tube tends to round-off / soften up it seems to take the kill the energy in them.

I wish I could have both the amps and switch between them depending on the songs played!

S.Basu,

This is the best time in Kolkata to invite FMs to your house and help you out. I saying this because many of us are in touch with each other and there are lots of thing happening in Kolkata. We are more active than ever in Kolkata now.

Call some FMs who have hands on experience in these things and they can help you. PM me and I shall PM you the contacts of them.

Thanks.

Mr. Basu does not seem interested in inviting people over to 'his' home! Sir, if so, no issues. But, at least do not blindly go by the valued suggestions provided by us contributors, please. Every ear is different. Every ear hears differently. Have faith in yours and listen to as many systems as possible in your city. I am sure many here would allow you to do so without ado. You would also get to see and understand the other nuances that come by with such systems.

Dear Amit,

Thanx for your suggestion. I am also confused with Marantz PM 6005 or Yamaha A S500. Actually PM 6004 is discontinued model. Plz share your experience about your amply. I had Marantz PM 5004 it's Mid & Low was excellent but Mid was almost zero. I need some clarity how it's detailing?

I have sent you a PM. Please read it.

Check speaker placement.
Interconnects and speaker cables.
That's how I got my midrange fixed. I always found my midrange recessed

I changed the positioning drastically and used branded speaker cable and now the midrange has significantly improved.

It is a journey of improvements and changes. Need to play around with various components.
Buying new/better equipment MAYNOT be the solution
