I would like to buy speakers for my Bluray player. I would prefer stereo speakers to 5.1 because of the wire the latter creates.
Q1. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

I recently connected my Audioengine 5 to my bluray player. The sound was good, but i thought the bass/thump in movie soundtrack, is overpowering for these speakers and may damage them (i fear). This bass/thump is very different to music.

Confused what to buy - my budget is around 15-20k all incl.

Hi

I use the boston acoustics soundware xs 5.1 setup which has powered woofer on a Marantz avr....the combo is perfect...the pioneer blu ray player does the required justice to add to the music / movie perfection!

On Hifi Mart there are Bostons 2.1 also available...there are total powered versions as well as 2.1 to be connected to the amplifier....these speakers are good...many reviews to support their performance...better than Bose.... the sound is awesome...

Hope this helps

This thread maybe useful for you:-
AV MAX Suggests: Budget Stereo Setup - Up To Rs 15,000

Norge is in mumbai itself so an audition is possible for you. Their website is Norge Audio
The owner Mr Bajaj should be able to guide you for the right system in this budget.
You could take your blurayplayer along to test.
Hope it has RCA outs though as Norge amps have RCA inputs.

Hi,

In terms of speakers, there is a thread on speaker prices posted a week back....I would bet on the Cambridge Audio bookshelf either the s30 or s50 as they have a better frequency response and higher sensitivity ratio

hope this helps....

audio engine A5's are darn good speakers. unless you crank them real loud or to a level where you hear any distortion i doubt they will be damaged in any case.

Thank you all for your inputs. The avmax link provided some good options under 15k.

However, I have set my eyes on active speakers - if I can get in my budget. If it doesn't work out, I would go for amp+bookshelves

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
