Hi Guys,
recently I bought 45 rpm EP set of CCR.

CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL THE SINGLES COLLECTION (15 x 45RPM 7" SINGLES BOX SET) at Music Direct

But the problem is the center hole is quite big something like

Amazon.com: VINYL RECORD 45 RPM.EP. BRENDA LEE "DYNAMITE " RARE COLLECTION.: Everything Else

I am quite confused how to place them on the platter properly. I mean to say how to properly center them. In the first place why they are made like that. Indian Eps are not like that they just have holes like normal lps.

Thanks.

EPs and 45 singles made in the UK (and most other countries) had a standard LP-type centre hole, sometimes with a thin central disk that could be 'punched out' to make them akin to the US-style large holed ones.

These large holes were designed to make them easily playable on juke boxes that were ubiquitous in the US from the 50s through the 80s. The juke boxes 'held' the 45 with a larger spindle to make easier the automatic loading and unloading from the stack. For playing 45s at home, most turntables of the time were sold with a free adapter of the kind Malvai referred to. Many Japanese TTs had a small circular recess on the plinth into which you could park the adaptor when not in use.

if you can't get one or wait to get one, you can always make one for yourself using multiple layers of cardboard or thick packaging cardboard or if you have the skills, you can carve one out of wood. However be careful with the hole for the spindle.

Hello Mr Kuruvila,
thanks for your offer. I will send you my address.

@ entsurgeon Can you please share a link to show me what do you mean.

Thanks.

What he ment was if you have another 45rpm or EP record with a punchable centre hole (like the one in this pic 45 rpm record with punchable hole - Google Search), you can just punch out the center piece and use that as the filler for your other 45s/EPs with a large centre hole.

The punchable centre hole concept was introduced to provide the user with the option of using the record on thick spindle changers and kiddies portable record players.

However the record from which you punch out the center hole piece will loose its intrinsic value :)
