Hi all

I have a basic query, and would appreciate your advice.

I bought a Panasonic 42 inch smart LED TV, and set up a HomeGroup that connects to my laptop wirelessly. Now, I'm able to stream local media (movies, music) from my laptop on to the TV.

However, I need the audio to be routed to my Denon 1513 AVR (non-DLNA capable). Is this possible? Can anything be done through HDMI cables? Please help!

Manu

Your best bet is to hook up the digital audio out of the TV to the AVR. Further if the receiver is ARC compatible over HDMI then you can get the audio from the TV by the same cable which is connected from the TV to AVR.

Option 1
If your TV has optical out the connect that to 1513 and that should work.

Option 2
Add a separate media player to Denon 1513 which is DLNA capable. Your 1513 does not have ARC.

Thanks for your responses!

haisaikat - You're right. My Denon is not ARC compatible. Have wanted to upgrade to 2113 or the X Series for a while now. Funds, as they do, magically keep depleting!

I will try the optical cable option first, and keep the media player option for later. My friend has a spare Ouya console - hope that comes in handy.

Quick question - I notice that the optical cable price vary widely. Thinking of a Belkin one for 1.4K. Any suggested preference?

Lengthy optical cables can be costly but if available go for the cheapest version for now as this is a stop gap solution anyway.

Besides optical, you can opt for RCA. But I think many will tell you it is inferior, but you should try it out first before you get the pricey optical.

Quick update: I picked up a Bandridge digital optical cable from Amazon. Its a 2.0M cable and just right for my setup. Now, I've connected the cable from the TV digital out to the AVR. Couple of quick points to note if you're doing this - you'll know that optical cables are connected when you see a red light at the tips. The other thing is, you need to enter the "Input assign" option on the AVR setup menu and assign "Optical" to TV Audio.

Loving this! Watching Class of 92 tonight :)
