Sub or Centre - Travelling from US to India

I wish to state that Jamo S426 is quite average though at that price nobody must complaint. I suggest you to slightly increase your budget and try getting a pair of floorstanders like Tannoy Mercury V4 or the new Polk TSx series or Energy CF series or even cheaper Sonodyne Sonus 2504 V3 or Pioneer SP-PK52FS. There are a few other options in that price range. You can later get a matching centre and then a sub.

Many thanks Santy.:)

Off the FS you suggested above, do you have any specific to suggest with AVR 1912 bearing in mind it would be 70% music and 30% movies?

I am happy to increase my budget a bit if I can build something good over period of time.

I feel you could go for Tannoy Mercury V4. There is a matching centre Mercury VC I think. But I advise to audition if possible since preferences are highly subjective.

dont know where you are located, pl visit a profx showroom to have a demo. they sell Denon Avr and you could audition to have an idea of which speakers go well with denon

Hey mshifi, thanks for your suggestion, appreciate that. I am based out of Delhi.......if I remember correctly we do not have Profx showroom here in Delhi.....

cheers

Hey All, Since I was traveling for meetings I couldn't concentrate on buying stuff I wanted to.

Recently got to Sonodyne showroom and auditioned Sonus 2504 V3. And then got back home and played my BS with Denon AVR 1912 with same tracks, I could make out the difference but not much. What I missed is bass/subwoofer in my current setup.

Might be I am not an Audiophile that's why couldn't make much difference.

So the question is if I am fine with my BS + AVR 1912 but since I feel bass or that punch is missing do you think it would be good/wise to invest in subwoofer first?

I know I have to buy FS some day but I think I can't buy both FS and subwoofer together due to budget issue.

I also know experts here have suggested that one should go for FS first then Subwoofer however my worry is if I go for FS first I will have almost the same sound that I have with my current set up and will still miss that bass/punch subwoofer effect.

For subwoofer I am considering Roarr 108 from Sonodyne, I reckon it will cost me around 14.5k after discount.

Since today is the last day to place the order, I wanted to have your quick view.

Please note my listening is 70% of music and 30% of Movie

Your response would be much appreciated.

Hi Vikram

Did you feel the bass was missing for music or movies? Sub is very necessary for a HT setup. Instead of upgrading your BS to FS, you must first get a sub. May be Sonodyne Roar 210 or Astonia sub will be fine if you are on a budget. I doubt if Roar 108 will have any impact at all.

However, if your preference is more towards music, then FS may be able to fulfill your bass requirement (not that BS cannot deliver low end but they are expensive). Problem seems to be that you are unable to appreciate the floorstanders of the same series of Sonodyne, so may you have to look elsewhere. Try to audition some floorstanders if possible. Start with Polk RTi A7.

Thanks a lot Santy. With the chat I had with George and your response above I think I am not spending appropriate time on auditioning and running towards taking a decision just because of current discount on Sonodyne.

When I auditioned 2504 I was listening to music and found Bass is not to the level I want.

Just one more question for the day when you recommend Astonia what model is that?
