We can always reduce the volume I guess and also adjust the xo settings. Its not always about quantum of bass but also quality of bass.

Rightly said. If it were to be the quality of bass, I personally feel neither of the said Polks would fit the bill

Well I dont have enough knowledge to post a really technical review. That's why I've refrained from posting a review of the speakers before...

But I can tell you one thing. You dont hear bass anymore. You feel it in your chest!

In the Kill Bill scene with Gogo Yubari, when Gogo drops that metallic ball on the floor, the thump is as real as it gets!

One more thing I realized, the Polk TSi 400s are fairly bassy themselves. When I auditioned in the Alliance four store, I listened in using another set of floorstanders that they had - which were not as bassy as mine. But the Impact 10 was having trouble coming out of the shadow of the Floorstanders! Impact 12 was able to hold its own effortlessly there. So I bought it.

The way I see it now, the 10 incher floorstanders would probably suffice for the entry level (TSi 300/ Jamo S426) floorstanders or bookshelves. For the more serious floorstanders you'd need a serious Subwoofer. Or, to put it another way, if you're not so demanding in your requirements, if you have a good set of floorstanders, you can make do without a sub - atleast for the time being - if you're budget constrained.

This is just IMHO.

Def tech Pro sub 1000TL may have rattling problem. I have read about this in several forums. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1271997/definitive-technology-prosub-1000-rattling
Better to get a Velodyne or SVS subwoofer.

For SVS, you need to order directly from Audire Technologies (Coimbatore). They ship directly to other parts of India.
The price should be around 55k.

You can check with Mr. Palani (Audio Planet) for SVS PB1000. Please let me know your experience with SVS sub. Some people suggests Sunfire SDS 10 or SDS 12 also over SVS. Mr. Palani deals with Sunfire sub also.

Fortunately there are tons of reviews and videos posted by users on the net to assist users like us to take the right decision....remember the center speaker and the sub woofer are the main things in a home theatre setup and the remaining fronts and rears are just passengers to provide effects.
