Hey guys...
I need to buy a DVD player with USB input...
I want one which can play SUBTITLES files also IF kept in the same folder of the USB as the Movie file and with the same name...

Also, if there aren't limitations to size of USB input ( eg - The player would read only pendrives up till 4 GB ) , then it's better!...

Budget - 2-3k

Suggest guys :)
Thank you...

Buy a cheap Philips model, without HDMI if you do not have a HD TV or with HDMI if you have a HD TV (costlier).

I have been using 2 Philips DVD players DVP 5965k for around 4-5 years now and they still work perfectly.

I can't suggest an exact model as I am not versed with the latest models but Philips is the way to go.

Also make sure it can be made region free by playing with the remote a bit. Google will provide whether a particular model can be made region free. As far as I know, most can.

^^ +1 to that ...... I bought Philips DVP5500S which was one of the first player to play Divx/xvid files back then in 2005. And its still working flawlessly.

Ohk..
Thanks guys..

The thing i want to ask is that CAN these philips DVD players play SUBTITLES file IF it is kept in the same folder as the MOVIE and with the same name?
I mean, when connecting the DVD player through USB

Also, i won't play movies through DVD's ...Will only play movies through USB so good USB function is a MUST for me.

First :: Yes the player supports SRT/SUB subtitles.

Second :: If playing though USB is your prime objective, nobody would suggest you a DVD player. Get a HDD based media player, Like WD TV or WD Live or Ac Ryan POHD or Xtremer. These playes can play almost all video formatts available with almost all bitrates and resolution from a HDD or a pen drive....

Sam - Thank you for the info ... I am not interested in spending 8-9k for a HDD media player..
I guess I will settle for a DVD player only...

Btw, how are these cheap HDD Media Players? I mean do they work well ?

WD TV is around 6K, infact if you take 20north route, it even less, I think around 4K and its worth every penny, infact even a decent DVD player would set you back min 3K. Spending couple of thousands extra and getting a "much" better player that is ease of use, plays all formatts, and playes HD a/v as well makes far better sense than a DVD player.........think of it.....

Well I dont know if anyone on the Fourm owns this player. I own a WD TV and AC Ryan POHD so I can provide any information pertaining to that. For Amkette player, wait if anyone form the fourm responds, or if you are serious about this player specifically than start a new thread asking if anyones owns this player can can provide some information......

Hows WD TV btw? And how much will it cost?

Amkette doesn't support .MKV so how can it run movies @ 720p?

Its around 6K in Indian Market.
Then the HD content must be in an AVI container (if Amkette supports AVI), which is rare for a HD movies.
