Hi,

I have Sony Surround Sound 5 channel almost 10 year old home theater system. Now the AVR unit of old system is not working properly. Hence planning to replace it.
Since I already have Smart TV, I was thinking to buy 5 channel integrated amplifier and use my existing system's speakers since those are in good condition. I searched on the internet but didn't find 5 channel home use amplifiers. Instead I am seeing AVRs or Stereo i.e. 2.1 channel amplifier.

My budget was 25K but it seems I may need to raise it.

I am staying in Mumbai, India.

I have few queries.

1. Are there any 5 channel amplifiers available for home use? (I am not looking for any professional amp. considering my budget)
2. Assuming 5 channel amp is available, if I connect my TV's digital out or optical out to amp's respective input then will blueray player connected to TV generate 5 channel output via amp? Assuming disk I am playing has 5 ch. audio.
3. Any good shop in Mumbai area that are specialist in audio solutions?

Thanking you.

Check out Emotiva's 5 channel power amplifier. They are value for money and should help you gradually upgrade your entire system.

There are 5 channel power amplifiers available, but you may refuse to upgrade after knowing their prices :ohyeah:

2. Assuming 5 channel amp is available, if I connect my TV's digital out or optical out to amp's respective input then will blueray player connected to TV generate 5 channel output via amp? Assuming disk I am playing has 5 ch. audio.

The 5 channel power amp need to be connected to Pre-outs of the external processor of an AVR (or) Pre-amp, which your Blu-ray player will not have mostly...

You can't connect the Optical out to a power amplifier directly.

All you need is an AVR.. Since your budget is a max of 25K, you can consider used ones too..

Alternatively take a look at online store..

Pioneer VSX-330 AV Receiver

Prices could be substantially low compared to physical store..

Could you please share your Sony hi-fi system model # and speakers model # if possible.. (This is juz to check compatibility with your new AVR).

at that price range, you'd be looking at pioneer and sony.

if you want to connect your tv optical out to the amp directly, the the amp needs to have an inbuilt dac, thereby coming with an optical / usb input. quite a few do come now a days

if you connect your blu ray to the tv (via analogue output), then you cannot take a optical out from your tv to your amp. one way to do it would be to take the 5.1 audio analogue out to your amplifier and the video out to your tv

Hi,

In simple words, a 5 channel signal in digital format needs to be decoded before being amplified to be fed to the speakers. Keep it simple and get a 5.1 channel AVR from a brand of your choice suiting your requirements and budget. Do make a note of the impedance rating of your speakers before shortlisting the AVRs. You may choose receivers from Marantz, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, etc. For best value, keep an eye on olx for pre used receivers.

all you need is a 5.1 avr. You can get entry level avr for about 36k. checkout brands of yamaha, denon.

Hi,

If budget is a constraint, look at the for sale by owner section or Hi Fi ads...some good equipment is available...

All the best

Most probably the speakers you have should have an impedance of 6 or 8 Ohms. Check Yamaha HTR 3066. It has a store price of 25 K and fits your bill perfectly
