Hi,

I bought a new Sundirect HD connection last week.
It is working fine, but the HD channel volume can not be controlled with the STB remote control.
So all the HD channels volume are coming at maximum level from STB to TV.
Whenever we switch the channel from normal to HD in STB, TV sounds at high volume that is enough to damage the speaker.
I asked the technician to check the STB and solve the problem, but they say it is a TV problem and these STB function like this only with certain LCD TVs.
I do not understand his reason and I suspect the STB can be faulty.
Here is my product details

SONY LCD 32" TV - model 32BX320
Sundirect STB = Samsung DSB 5090R
firmware version = 1.00/1119
software version = 364.000.0416
last sw update = 2011/03/02

Please tell me how to solve this problem or tell me whether you also face such problem.

Thanks,

Best regards,
Sakitram

Hmmm, check for setting audio output to PCM and you would get what you want. PCM reduce the quality of audio going to your TV (only mildly), however would let you control volume as there is NO WAY we could control "volume" of a Dolby Digital DATA stream when it goes UNADULTERATED to the TV.

Don't bother if you don't understand these technical terms, just set the output as PCM and you would be happy :)

Yes I have the same issue but nothing worked, technicians don't know anything about anything, they simply bluff,i have connected stb to my onkyo ,i control volume in onkyo.

So Sun HD do not have a setting of changing the output through HDMI as PCM?

My friend has a Samsung LED and Dish HD. Volume of all channels is controlled by the remote. Technician is just bluffing.

Dude, that is because till recently Dish HD NEVER had DD Audio! We should KNOW the FACTS before commenting ;) Ask your friend to take Dolby Digital Audio from Movies Now and try to control volume for that from Dish HD remote. It can NEVER happen.

there is option in menu
menu-->audio-->digital volume control--> on
now the stb will downmix dolby digital to 2 channel audio, now you can control volume with stb remote.........

this doesnt work with my case, stb wont control dd5.1 signals.....

So is that option not converting to 2 channel PCM despite changing the option? Are you still getting DD5.1 through HDMI (its actually better if you don't convert on STB and instead pass DD5.1 to TV, only side effect is volume control can work only after DD is converted to PCM).

If DD 5.1 is at full volume, why not keep the volume of SD channels also full on the STB and then control the volume through the TV.

But it is obviously known fact that not all the channel comes with same volume level. And another thing it that we need STB interface to change channel.
So practically, it will not work.

I understand that we need STB interface and two remotees has to be used simultaneously. But using two remotes is better than risking speakers to blow off.
