Can you please suggest me how I can place my surround speakers (2 speakers) for the best result of surrounding effect? I want them to be placed wall hanging.
I have 5.1 HTS. & my room size is 10 ft X 10 ft X 11 ft.

Thanks in advance,
JD......

Thumb rule, place your surrounds @ ear level and let them face the ear's position.from the ground level it should be between 3 to 4 feet depending how low is your seating

While browsing for similar thread i came across this one so thought of posting my query here.

I am planning to setup my surround speakers. I am more into watching movies than music (90% movies & 10% music). If its music then that is played in stereo.

I am more inclined towards the dipole speakers that give a better / diffused surround sound effect.

My current choices for surround speakers (according to my preference) are the following:

a) Sonodyne R-ears - Dipole - Rs. 12k (pair)
b) Polk Audio - Tsi 100 - bookshelf (direct radiating) - Rs. 9.5k (pair)
c) Polk Audio - Rti Fxi A4 - Dipole / Bipole - Rs. 16.8k (pair)

My current choice is Option A because firstly they are dipolar speakers and secondly my fronts (L & R) are from Sonodyne range its self.

I am also considering Option B as they are the cheapest and spec wise are superior than the Sonodyne's and they are cheaper by 2.5k. I have read good reviews for the Polk's.

I would have loved to go for option C but due to budget constraints am not considering it at the moment.

Now my decision is going see-saw between option A & B due to placement issues.

My room specs are - 10 x 10 x 11 feets (L x B x H).
a) There is zero gap between my listening position and the rear wall.
b) on the rear wall on the right hand side there is a door (opens inside the room) to the balcony and on the right side a window (about 1.5 feet apart from the left wall. the door is around 7 feet hight.

Hence I am in a dilemma on speaker placement. There are two options for me now.

A) place speaker on the rear wall at a height of about 7 feet from the floor
B) place speaker on the side walls at a height of about 8 feet (above the door) and incline it towards the listening position.

Now please suggest which is the best speaker (dipole or direct radiating) and placement (rear or side) option that will suit according to my listening position

I can post pictures of my room if that will help.
