I sold my Indica Vista Quadrajet earlier this week and was quite dismayed to take a substantial hit. There were hardly any buyers until I reduced the price to a pretty low level. Apparently Maruti and Hyundai cars retain their prices a lot better. No more Tata cars for me-in any case I had decided on that even before the sale!

George,

You are absolutely right in your observation. The reasons for this are difficult to assign.

One reason could be that both the Indica and Indigo are popular as taxis. This could have led to their having a slightly down-market image in the private car market with consequent depression in prices. This is not the case with Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai vehicles which are primarily private cars.

There could be other reasons also.

Regards.

It's about the quality and longitivity, style everything. Now nobody can cheat with lower standards.Market is global ,so people seeing quality things from the globe.I don't see many tata cars run so efficiently with swifts ,polo ,logans etc. Then how you will have resale value. It is better to avoid tata cars.Engine probs are quite common with tata indicas indigos.

Tata nano is my next ride.

The saved funds will go into next audio upgrade and the saved money on fuel will go for purchasing new music.

congrats George-ji!
The resale value will increase probably with their new products Zest and bolt!! A great VFM.

Ford, Hyundai, Renault/Nissan etc have all made huge investments in India.
It is only partially true that they are not Indian cars - apart from ownership.

Tata Indica cars have suffered very poor build quality. Hence the poor resale value.
They had every imaginable opportunity in front of them when they started out. Completely wasted.

Our company surveyed four compact car companies for lease/purchase.
Hyundai handily beat out the competition in most categories.

The Zest is rolled-out with competitive pricing! Do check. And the quality also improved by leaps and bounds! Now only the A.S.S needs a refresher course!!!

I guess resale value of Tata cars will no longer be poor with the introduction of brilliant machines like zest/bolt. Excellent pricing and value proposition. The only thing pending as of now is to boost the brand image as much as possible.

I will blame the taxi image/Brand image and below par interiors for its poor resale value.

The way the Tata companies blood-suck their vendors/suppliers, how can an unsuspecting consumer expect good quality goods from them till they use it? After the first use, a repeat never happens.
