Hi,

Hello friendly turntablists and audophiles, I recently purchased a pair of SL1200MK5 from japan. The turntables don't come with a cart and are second hand.

I am new to setting this up, so I've set my first priority to check if the turntables are working correctly.

I need help with a questions

1. The voltage reads as 100v 11W 50/60Hz. How can I use this in India with a 240V input that we all get? What convertor do I need use? Links to amazon/flipkart would help.

2. I've purchased a phono preamp BEHRINGER MICROPHONO PP400 ULTRA-COMPACT PHONO PREAMP as I found that is the cheapest way to get the turntables to play. What do you guys think of this amp for regular listening?

3. I need a cart; whats a good cart for djing. I am new to this so don't want to start with a really expensive carts and bust them. Which one would you suggest? Link/dealer locations to purchase in bangalore would really help.

4. If you're from bangalore; give me a shout looking to make new friends here who are love their vinyls and 1200s!

Hi.. Welcome to the vinyl club.

Yes. You need a 240 to 100V AC step down power converter. Now you have following option.

1. Buy a commercially available 240/110VAC converter. Standard product available from MX. MX dealer shop is available in SP Road. Here the draw back is your unit is 100V but commercial converters are 110V output. It is 10% higher than your requirement. Usually all electrical devices withstand 10% overvoltage.. still it is a burden.

2. You can make custom build 240/100V AC converter. You may contact Miracle Transformers in Kamakshipalaya, Bangalore. They make custom build power supplies as per requirement. They may ask little higher price than market price.

3. Rewinding of original transformer inside the Turntable suitable to 240V. Miracle Transformers may also help you if you chosen this route. You need some professional help to do this. Be aware this is somewhat modifying of original unit and may affect the unit resale value and subject to personal satisfaction. The advantage is free from risk of unintentional wrong connection with direct higher voltage sockets. Please note, it is also possible making a new transformer with same dimension of original one and this gives an option of reverse at any time.

Best of luck.

One of our FM svaze is using similar Technics TT, Japan make 100V. He ordered one 240V->100V, 100-200VA toroidal transformer and using it happily. Its proven though not cheap. Ask him.

For my Sansui AU607 amplifier (100V) I had to buy a transformer around 4-5 years back. That time I paid through my nose (Rs. 6,000) but it was a Made in Japan transformer (100v to 240), pretty heavy.

Have sent svaze a PM. Not sure how to tag the person in a reply to a post. Anyways thanks for the help. I'll check with him.

240-100
you can contact mr shah from maxine transformer chennai.
He is very prompt in service.

1000 W will cost u around 6000 INR.

Here Your TT power consumption is only 11W only and required only 15VA transformer capacity. Safely say 30 -50VA transformer is enough. The price of such transformers will be around 200 - 600Rs. only. Rs.200 standard one and Rs.600 if custom made.
