The MRP of the 65" Panasonic plasma '65VT20' is only Rs. 380,000/- ($8100) a TV that is available for $3850 in the US.
I am sorry that is nothing a load of ... The extra taxes/customs/excise etc. etc. still in no way justify the difference in price. One of the BIGGEST reasons for such a huge price difference between US and India is taxes that companies have to pay.

PS: Two days ago I was sitting with two Panasonic employees (quite senior) and I brought up the topic of the pricing of the VT and I confronted them with the fact the prices that they themselves had confirmed a couple of months ago for the VT series was much lower than the prices that have finally been announced now. What I understood from the information I got from them is absolutely unbelievable and shocking. Basically, in the original pricing structure, the difference between the V20 and the VT20 was pretty much to be the same as the difference between the two models elsewhere in the world. But based simply on the demands of select dealers, two in Delhi (not brand shops) the price was jacked up just before launch to be able to provide unprecedented margins to these select dealers. This increase in price and margins for these dealers on the 65VT20 is an unbelievable amount. It was really nice to know how professional Panasonic is in it's dealings, not only with the consumers but also their own brand shops. I know for a fact that there are 'eight' 65VT20 TVs in stock for the Delhi territory right now, but they are only being made available to these two dealers to sell, while the brandshops have been told for now that there are no stocks yet. Make of this what you wish and NO, I am sorry I am not at liberty to disclose names in a public forum. Quite honestly I am not sure I should even be mentioning this whole issue here, but I am just too pissed to really care right now.
The pricing of the 50" 50VT20 by Panasoinc in India is outrageous. The relatively equivalent model in the US, the 50VT25 can be bought for approx. Rs 90,000. As a matter of fact, in the US you can buy the 58" 58VT25 for approx. Rs. 127,000 and even the 65" 65VT25 can be had for approx. Rs. 184,000. No excuses of duties or taxes can justify the obnoxios price gouging by Panasonic in India.

Panasonic products should be boycotted for their attitude and treatment of the Indian market.

Now wouldn't that be totally contrary to the philosophy of the company? For a company looking to charge (fleece) their customers with a 'special' (high) price, it is highly unlikely they would consider any 'special' discounts for members here or anywhere else. Although they have offered me 'lower' prices if I want a TV for my personal use, it does not change the fact that I am quite disgusted with the overall attitude. Definately not very professional.Hey sanjay0864, since you seem to be hobnobbing with those high up "(quite senior)" in the Panasonic company, could you possibly get special discounts for members of hifivision???
I do not understand this language. Please do not explain, if it is vulgar.
I think it is something to do with cowdung........ or the dung excreted by a bull
