The VT20 is out on the Panny Website

Friends - extreame models ( Bigger than 55 Inches) have very limited market in India. Very very limited. Can you tell me how many retailers carry it in display?
So these are fully imported ..also difficult to transport as special precautions required.

I heard a story there 103 inch Pana plasma was launchec at 25 lack ( or more?) I display piece was rotated in 3 retail locations and company wanted to dispose it off...so it was sold to a bollywood personality around 15 lack.

Company need to take in account service cost , cost of disposing unsold inventory etc. I am not justifying their practices but some realistic view need to be taken.
American market is different with different and far oppulant consumption patterns.

The MRP of the 65" Panasonic plasma '65VT20' is only Rs. 380,000/- ($8100) a TV that is available for $3850 in the US.

Before trying to prove Panasonic is cheating Indian customers, you first need to be fair. Comparing the Indian MRP with the lowest price you see in Nextag is incredibly unfair and bordering on silly.

Once again, to put things into perspective, the MRP of Samsung 63C7000 is Rs.3,00,000 ($6472) while the lowest listed US price is (or in your words, "is available for") $2149.

If your noble intention is to prove that Panasonic is ripping off customers, be fair first.

In any case, it's pointless talking about how much things are in the US. It's a different market, as simple as that.

I think we need to blame the govt. One of the BIGGEST reasons for such a huge price difference between US and India is taxes that companies have to pay.

I am sorry that is nothing a load of ... The extra taxes/customs/excise etc. etc. still in no way justify the difference in price.

PS: Two days ago I was sitting with two Panasonic employees (quite senior) and I brought up the topic of the pricing of the VT and I confronted them with the fact the prices that they themselves had confirmed a couple of months ago for the VT series was much lower than the prices that have finally been announced now. What I understood from the information I got from them is absolutely unbelievable and shocking. Basically, in the original pricing structure, the difference between the V20 and the VT20 was pretty much to be the same as the difference between the two models elsewhere in the world. But based simply on the demands of select dealers, two in Delhi (not brand shops) the price was jacked up just before launch to be able to provide unprecedented margins to these select dealers. This increase in price and margins for these dealers on the 65VT20 is an unbelievable amount. It was really nice to know how professional Panasonic is in it's dealings, not only with the consumers but also their own brand shops. I know for a fact that there are 'eight' 65VT20 TVs in stock for the Delhi territory right now, but they are only being made available to these two dealers to sell, while the brandshops have been told for now that there are no stocks yet. Make of this what you wish and NO, I am sorry I am not at liberty to disclose names in a public forum. Quite honestly I am not sure I should even be mentioning this whole issue here, but I am just too pissed to really care right now.

Thanks for sharing mate, but i am sure this is not an isolated case and not the only range of products...

The pricing of the 50" 50VT20 by Panasoinc in India is outrageous. The relatively equivalent model in the US, the 50VT25 can be bought for approx. Rs 90,000. As a matter of fact, in the US you can buy the 58" 58VT25 for approx. Rs. 127,000 and even the 65" 65VT25 can be had for approx. Rs. 184,000. No excuses of duties or taxes can justify the obnoxios price gouging by Panasonic in India.

Anyone knew how much chivas regal costs in India? I mean 750 Ml bottle...?
Must be around 3.5 to 4 K.....

Now in UK online price is just Rs1530

On many international airports duty free 1 Litre ( Not 750 ml) bottle is is available for 1500.

Panasonic products should be boycotted for their attitude and treatment of the Indian market.

BTW I am not planning to boycott chivas regal.
...........

Many times decent B grade watch brands ( like tissot)are available at deep discounts, half to one third prices than India!

I do not understand this language. Please do not explain, if it is vulgar.

Anyways, my comment is not to justify Panasonic, it's meant why Indian prices are more compared to US. And this applies to everything that we import. Which means, India requires development of full echo system rather than the white collar labor being developed by Infosys, TCS, Wipro, etc.

Hey sanjay0864, since you seem to be hobnobbing with those high up "(quite senior)" in the Panasonic company, could you possibly get special discounts for members of hifivision???

I think it is something to do with cowdung........ or the dung excreted by a bull:)

Now wouldn't that be totally contrary to the philosophy of the company? For a company looking to charge (fleece) their customers with a 'special' (high) price, it is highly unlikely they would consider any 'special' discounts for members here or anywhere else. Although they have offered me 'lower' prices if I want a TV for my personal use, it does not change the fact that I am quite disgusted with the overall attitude. Definately not very professional.

had to see the demo of VT20 yesterday at Panny brand shop but to my dismay someone already bought the single panel available with them now it will take another week to get hold of it went on to see sony HX800 3d led much better experience then sammy c7000
