Hi!
I am a prospective 42'' tv buyer with a tight budget of 40k.was decided on LG 42pj650 after seeing it in showroom -had very less degradation of picture even with comparision with a Sony B5 engine FUll HD.But was then thrown another choice of Toshiba 40AV700 at a similar price point at many dealers. It's a full HD LCD.. Now i couldn't get any reviews of this model out here.. Can anybody please throw light on this?(Owners please share ur experiences)..

both the models are available around 40k. the response time on the models is 8ms, don't know if this is a point of concern to you. also when i saw these models personally, the picture looked washed out.

Hi,

In Asia Toshiba is a value for money product about 35% cheaper then Sony's and Samsung's. So if the price in India is also about 35% cheaper as compared to Sony/Samsung then its definately a good buy.

Product wise it may not have all the bells and whistles that a Samsung has but you need to ask how many times you really use those features but still pay extra for it. This is where Toshiba fits in with its mid-range value for money products.

I have a 32 inch Toshiba TV for my home in India, and have no complaints on it. SD picture quality is good under compressed Dist TV signal but not excellent, although I suspect the culprit is Dish TV. But once you connect to HD its flawless. Also I find that the Toshiba HD color is much more natural then even Sony and Samsung. Now that we have HD option in India you must connect the Toshiba via HD and do some comparision.

Its key processor is the power meta brain a 10 bit process that produces images and color. I found some review of the RV series so you can click on the link below and check it out.

Ultimately I would suggest let your eyes be the best judge. Most of the television reviews that you read will be based on ideal test conditions in a laboratory with much calibration so not sure how much those test results will matter at home.

Toshiba has also launched a 42 inch LED TV XL 700 so you may wish to check the specs too

REGZA

Good luck on your TV hunt, and trust me this is the most exciting phase of the shopping. Its like shopping for baby stuff prior to the arrival of the baby.

Thankyou yogesh and spiderman for the reply
@ yogesh
The RV600E is a higher model than AV700 and has a response time of 6.5ms and contrast ratio of 50000:1

@spiderman
ya you were right-with HD signals the toshiba was very much identical to the samsungs or sonys. But,when i saw dth on it the picture was not good (here the plasma i mentioned looked better)-whether it was the DTH cable fault or low response time fault-i dont know but there was a river rafting scene coming up-it had some pixels getting struck (now,i guess you know what i am telling in the language of a novice :) ).But the other features on toshiba are all very good-like the the input ports (though design could have been sleeker- in my view).
Anyway will go around seeing before finalizing :)
But from a day or two i have cleared up my mind and not buying a plasma -for multiple reasons. But,this may not be the appropriate thread to discuss that topic:)

Hi,

Have you finalised with your choice? Yesterday I also seen Toshiba 40AV700 at Ezone and compared it with samsung,lg,sony and philips and believe me except sony no one was close to it. I believe it will be good buy in 40K.

@gaurav
hi! if av700 is good, then rv600e will be even better -coz it is 2 series higher up in regza range and has better specs.evn it's available for 39-40k.i think it's time we start seeing toshibas too.. and gaurav did u see sd channels on it?how were they? (HD i am sure it was good-as i saw that too)

After lots of homework, my eyes settled for the RV600E and I have, couple of weeks ago, bought a 32" and a 42". Both are presently working with SD and seem to be as good as a Samsung. The HD set top boxes are yet to be installed.
Are you really getting the 42" at 40K in Mumbai? I paid 44K for mine.

i think u may get it at ezone itself-coz ezoneonline.in had that offer for their blindfold sale-i had seen upto last sunday..

@tau
and yes,you are using DTH for SD channels? is their any washed out picture quality as mentioned in a reply above? or the pictures sharp? and watz the viewing distance for 42'' to get an acceptable quality for SD?

@isisira
I didn't checked DTH on it but i tried some SD divx movies and found they were looking good on Toshiba compared to Sony. Sony had high noise levels in dark sceens and even after trying all settings it didn't improve the PQ while Toshiba had no such problems. Toshiba is going to launch some new series including LED next month so lets see what they are going to offer and then decide.

Hello everyone i am new to the forum.... Just this 21st aug i had my 1st LCD TV,
its 32av700e.... Toshiba is certainly a good buy as per the price.I bought it for 20k and a airtel DTH. I have already done a thorough research before buying ,and as per the reviews its nice. SONY is a good brand too but its heavy on your pockets as they charge for there BIG and BETTER ads.

The features are great and infact they are offering more for less( thats the way to put things :-) )

Presently cable connection. The sharpness is very good for some channels to mediocre for some others. Hope this will be resolved once the Digital Set Top boxes are installed.

For my 42", I have a distance of 10 feet, it is comfy.

where from did u get itin 20k?
Also, do you recommend it?

I am from bangalore & thinking of buying lcd tv in limited budget.

Thanks

Forums as this has helped me in my several purchases. I thought I would equally contribute to the society.
I have recently purchased Toshiba 32AV700 from Vijay Sales for 18K (20K less 2K for old TV) and replaced my desktop monitor. I connected desktop PC with HDMI cable 1.3b costing near about Rs. 800/-.
My Reviews
Pros
The quality is far better than what I expected a 20K LCD to give.
PC experience
Absolutely No Blurring
Clear and Crisp Fonts.
No Lag (I played FIFA 2011 and Call of Duty MF2).
No pixelation.
High Contrast.
Very Good amount of Blackness depth
TV experience
I have connected a Set top box for TV reception in RCA jacks
The quality is what your Cable operator is capable of giving and ofcourse the quality of cable. HBO and all discovery channels are great but Saas Bahuu Channels are of mediocre quality.

My brother owning Samsung Full HD LCD scrutinized my Toshiba and was of the opinion that Toshiba seemed to reproduce exact colors (not much red not much blue), Good brightness (backlight power) and is very close compared to his Samsung.

Cons
All the Inputs are in the center back of the Panel.
USB does not support Media Files but only JPEG. It supports only FAT systems.
Menu Interface is not as beautiful as Samsung's Menu
Remote Control could have been much better

But I am happy to have these Cons. Do you know why?
Because if they weren't there you would not get this 32inch piece for 20K, would you?

Missed out some points

178 degree view angle. That is really working. Hardly any change in color shade when viewed at extreme possible angle. But again your remote controller wont work at this angle :(

Large set of inputs viz. 4 HDMI, D-Sub, CompositeVideo, PC input (VGA), 4 sets of RCA jacks(red, white, yellow), Coaxial TV reception.
But didn't provide DVI port.

Many Picture Viewing modes viz. Movie, Mild, Natural, Dynamic etc etc. But my favorite is PC mode. Because in this mode your Text becomes extremely clear, smooth and pleasant to read (comfortable to eyes) which hardly any LCD TV would provide.
If one single button to sift through these modes was provided it would have been charm.

I compared Toshiba TV with AOC, VU, Loydd and Sansui as per my budget range. I feel Toshiba is clear winner because now after its purchase I am able to compare it with Samsung and Sony's HD ready LCDs.

I am planning to buy the dell ultrasharp 23" for ~16k and this looks tempting.

How is

1) Heat?
2) Text sharpness from 1-2 feet? ( I think this is HD ready?)
3) Gaming?

I will mostly not use it as a TV as I have my 42" plasma for that purpose. How is this holding up as monitor only? Would you recommend this TV as monitor for browzing/Document review/programming etc?

How easy is it to read word docs?

Can you post some fotos?

Eh? Isn't Dell Ultrasharp 23" a monitor?? Dell makes quality products so even for ~16k, I'd still say it's good.

1) As with all LCD displays heat is not a problem at all.

2) It is not HD ready. In all probability it will be 1920x1080 (if not 1680x1050). Again I think you have mistaken a computer monitor for a TV. Please correct me if I am wrong. Text will be very sharp as on any other monitor.

3) It should be just about perfect for gaming.

I would recommend this display as a good computer monitor and not as a TV. For browsing, programming, and document perusal you'll be hard pressed to find a better display.
