toshiba 40 av 700 - opinions?

Eh? Isn't Dell Ultrasharp 23" a monitor?? Dell makes quality products so even for ~16k, I'd still say it's good.

1) As with all LCD displays heat is not a problem at all.

2) It is not HD ready. In all probability it will be 1920x1080 (if not 1680x1050). Again I think you have mistaken a computer monitor for a TV. Please correct me if I am wrong. Text will be very sharp as on any other monitor.

3) It should be just about perfect for gaming.

I would recommend this display as a good computer monitor and not as a TV. For browsing, programming, and document perusal you'll be hard pressed to find a better display.

I think my query was not clear.

I am planning to buy a dell ultrasharp 23" at 16k and was asking how this toshiba TV 32AV700 fares against it as a monitor only (not for TV viewing) in the parameters mentioned in my earlier post.

In short, If my requirement is only computer monitor, does it makes sense to buy toshiba 32AV700 against the likes of the ultrasharps as it provides me with more real-estate and is a TV grade panel. (Heard that non-IPS monitor panels are made of inferior TN panels while none of the 32"+ TVs use these.

Oh Okay.
The Toshiba model is HD ready, so it will not stand a chance against a DELL Ultrasharp as far as clarity of text goes. In fact, as a monitor the DELL should win hands down. Only way in which the TV scores over the DELL is wrt real screen estate. Dell provides solid warranty. Toshiba ASS is questionable. Personally I feel that 22-23" is ideal for a monitor. But if you can live with blurry text then the Toshiba makes sense at the price.

Clearly not for me. :)
Was planning to have a comparative demo. But now it seems not required.

Rightly Said Toshiba 32AV700 is HD ready. You have option of Full HD too i think its called RX series.

If the purpose is only using it as monitor it is not rational to buy LCD TV for all those reasons mentioned in above posts.

But as far as my experience of using it for text goes, it isnt blurry at all if set in correct mode (PC Mode). LCD TV is too much bright for using it as monitor in default settings. so had to lower down brightness but no HEAT from the screen is sensed. I sit as close as 2 feet from the screen.

I am having great pleasure in gaming. Recently played Call of Duty: black ops and I bet that only LCD TV of 32" or more can give you that extreme involvement in the game, superb environmental effects, color and feel reproduction.

My purpose was to use a single screen for Home Theater as well as monitor

Hi All,
I have brought a Toshiba 40AV700 for 34k (Exchange for my old 29 inch Philips TV) from Devi Electronics ,Bangalore.

Reason for buying Toshiba is

1) Quality of an Image when compared with the same level of settings with SONY40EX400 in Pai International. Infact he suggested me to go for Toshiba.

2) Natural Colours (additional patented colour technology apart from RGB colours and Panel.

3) 4 HDMI

4) It has the same features as of SONY 40EX400 like Ambient Sensor, Auto Signal booster, 4 HDMIs, 24p cinema but the rate of sony is 55k and Toshiba is 38k.

I have a SONY upscaling 1080p DVD player. The moment i have connected and watch the movies.. Mindblowing.. My parents were amused to see such a clarity.

My cousin has a sammy full HD 32 inch TV with Big TV connection, I was bit disappointed to see the picture quality.

I have a Tatasky HD connection and to be frank the i didnot see any pixelation in any of the channels. Its 40 Inch.. But still the there is no pixelations..

Star Cricket HD, NEO SPORTS HD, DISCOVERY HD and NGC HD is treat to an EYE..

I agree that LED lit LCD TV produce more brightness and contrast ratios and consumes less power but for my TV viewing what ever i have is more sufficient and I am very much satisfied with my product.

We are in a generation where today's technology will be a outdated one tommorow.

After 5 years again new technology will emerge and we are provoked to buy a new product. So Invest less on Electronics items.

I am very satisfied with my Toshiba 40AV700
