Hi All,

I am looking for a 46 - 50 inch TV for my mom.. No frills needed like 3D, Smart & Internet.... Juz a good & bigger display for the money...

Shortlisted Samsung 51F4900 HD 3D plasma.. Price seems to be 62K ane the retailers are not getting any low with the prices... This TV comes with 2 pair pd 3Dglasses which is of no use....

Alternateively i came across Toshiba 46PX200 @ 50K in snapdeal..... Is it good buy ? Most of the retailers i enquired in chennai quote atleast 60 - 65K for this TV & surprising to find snapdeal listed for 50K... which is exceptional price for 46 inch edge lit led tv...

Has anyone bought from snapdeal so far...The reason i ask is because, i haven't bought anything from snapdeal so far...

the seller (terebijon) seems to have 4.5/5 starts there... Your advice required please...

The most important thing is it comes with 3 years warranty...

If you check older/ similar thread that there has been issues earlier dealing with snapdeal. I remember a FM purchasing a TV got a very old set (though not a demo one).

If you go for snapdeal, make sure its COD.

All the best.

I have bought mobiles from snapdeal. The service was good but haven't done any TV purchase online. On 31 there is viveks grand sale.Probably you can get a good deal.Try chellamani too they do offer at competitive rates.Bargain hard. Its better to purchase TV in stores. If its a demo piece it becomes a pain to followup and get it replaced.

Thanks for the info buddy... But it is hard to bargain with Viveks.. They never budge... Chellamani will try...

tried bargaining with Reliance Digital & they were simply not ready to lower price even by a thousand.... From what i understood from them is Samsung & Sony command a fixed price and they shouldn't be selling any lesser than what the distributros have fixed... Hell with themm..

Anyways am taking chances with other brands & checked few options today from other retailers today....

Philips 50PFL4758 @65K - Philips 4000 series 50PFL4758/V7 - LED TV

Toshiba 50L2300U @ 65K - ..:: Toshiba thinkingLED ::..

Philips is good I'm using the 32 inch led.Black levels are impressive. If you are deciding for philips try sathya stores retail chain. They offer good rates and check whether extended warranty is given.

I have faced the similar price issue when I bought my led in Jan 2013. However, I feel, to some extent this is good for the consumer.

Oh.. Are you using the 32PFL4738 model ? Didn't get a chance to to demo the TV.. Juz enquired abt the best prices that they can offer....

Am still considering the Samsung 51F4900 HD tv as first choice since most of the content that will be watched would be SD & HD chaneels which is close to the TV's resolution of 1024 x 768 p... Also will be connecting the PC thru HDMI to the TV to watch movies, play few games, browsing & you tube videos....

Though the TV resolution is 1024 x 768p, i hope it will support 1920 x 1080p over HDMI without any issues...

The second choice is Toshiba which comes with 3 years warranty....

Philips being a good brand, i get only only 1 years warranty..Not sure if they give 2 yrs extended warranty like Samsung, Sony....

Hmmm....not sure.... All these days we were used to bargaining hard for nay consumer electronics (Be it TV, Fridge, A/C, washing machines).... You fell odd when you can't bargain..:)

I'm using philips 6357 led.For certain models 2 years warranty is extended.Try the next showroom near to croma in annanagar. Its like a direct shop.if u use cards they offer some cash back and try to bargain. Some offers are bundled like 2 years videocvon HD DTH for free along with certain models.Plasma is a good choice to watch the contents you have mentioned,

Thanks for the info.. The price which i quoted for Philips was after enquiring from that Next showroom near Tata Croma...

Only the models with DDB have that offer of DTH free viewing.... This model 50PFL4758 doesnt have DDB technology....

Anyways i will check with them for a good price when i finalise on Philips..

Nope not yet... These not so big retailers don't stock these 50 inch display in store.... Didn't get a demo....

Here are some no frills LCD-LED TV in 50 inches for around 60 - 65K Budget...

Toshiba 50L2300 for 65K, Panasonic TH-L50B6D for 62K, Philips 50PFL4758 for around 62K.

i m not an expert on tv's and havent compared plasma and led..

is plasma less brighter and pleasing...low stress on eyes?

Am most likely to buy the Samsung 51F4900 Plasma around 62K.. Though HD resolution only, picture quality is very good. It is not as bright as LCD-LED TV..But colours look very pleasing when an HD material is played back...

Me too neither... Not exactly... Plasmas are not as bright as LCD TV's today....But they are reasonably bright....

Low Stress on eyes ? - Not sure... But you can always tweak the best setting for yourself as there is no predefined one...

My brother owns a LG 42 Inch HD Plasma & my self own a Sony 46 inch FHD LCD- CCFL backlight TV... From what i have noticed in the past one year is my bother LG Plasma has a beautiful colour presentation than my Sony LCD TV...

Sony LCD Viewing angles are good to an extent.. but beyond a point, they looked offcolour (Washedout).... I havent noticed this with plasma, for the same viewing angle compared with my TV, plasma is good....

Also much has been spoken abt image retention & Burn in... My brother didn't follow anything and there hasn't been anything noticeable...

So first choice by default was a Plasma for my mom...Juz that we are moving to a big screen (50 inches) from 32 inches LCD TV...
