Friends,
I am in need of servicing my TT ( Dual 1228 ) . Is there a good service centre or technicians in Ahmedabad or Gujarat ? I solicit our friends to please help me in this matter.
Thanks

Mine is old TT : Dual 1228 purchased in 1977. For last 20-22 years , it was packed and stored and not put to use . Now I am trying to restart it. There is Humming noise in one Chanel . I gave good ground connection , but still humming persists.
I thought if someone like technician or a serious analog hobbyist or DIY re can look at it and solve it or even thoroughly check it out , it will be worth it.

Clean the cartridge pins and the tags that attach to them. Also check the connectors on the cartridge slide and those inside the tonearm headshell. They might have tarnished. Use a pencil eraser to clean. Do not use sandpaper or WD40 to clean these contacts as that can damage the gold plating.

Regards,

Thanks for your suggestions and guideline.
I went through the Manual , and I did cleanup the contacts within cartridge , pins , etc. I used DeOxit D cotact cleaners and DeOxit Gold at the end . There was improvement, reduction in Hum , but still not going from one chanel .
But I can do the whole cleaning exercise again like you are saying .

Hum in one channel could be due to bad RCA cable. You can try swapping RCA output in amp's input, see if hum changes to another channel.

Regards,
Sachin

Sachin,
I tried swapping RCAs , still Hum remains in same Left Chanel . So hum does not go to another chanel.

If the hum changes over to the right channel speaker after the RCA swap then it is a turntable issue, if it continues from the left speaker than a preamp/poweramp issue, If you have and know how to use a multimeter check continueity from the cart tags to the RCA pins. Also check the muting switch that is under the chassis next to the large cam wheel. Contacts inside the switch may not be opening or closing properly. Check them and clean with de-oxit.

Regards,

Thanks.
I have multimeter and know how to check continuity , but do not know how to use (read) on cart tags to RCA . But will try.
I will try to look for the "muting switch" as pointed out by you and will de-oxit if I find one.
My phono amp is new so do not see a problem there. My amp is already being used for other digital sources and never have any issues there.
