Hi, No idea whether thread such as this available or not. I just want to recreate or reignite memories old tv sets which were gems on all aspect.

Few I can remember (its the era before globalisation and open market)

1. EC tv - any one can remeber EC from hyderabad ? they used to produce absolutely rock solid tv. Their tv sets were so ahead of time that once down no one can make them up properly. We got a EC tv way back 1982. TV was alive till 2004.

2. Nelco Bluediamond - Another gem. It was the first color TV in our house. Aesthetically it was superb. We aquired it around 1992. Tv was alive till 2010.

3. Santosh - I believe I spelled/named it correctly. It was a local brand for poor mans need. Good tv with cheap price tag.

Any body here can remember more ? Please add

First one in our house was a Sonodyne with wooden shutter followed by a Sears Elcot. Nelco blue diamond was the first color tv, then came the Sony Trinitron .

Coincidentally, our first colour TV was Nelco Blue Diamond purchased by my father in 1988. That was replaced by BPL Sanyo 21" in 1995. Still have it. My parents used to live in Gujrath and I in Pune in the 1990.

I purchased Optonica 20" in 1992. Sold it off in 1997 and purchased LG 29". The LG was superb and I came to know later that it was a CKD stuff. This was realized when the EHT transformer went bad - probably due to power fluctuations/breakdowns. For one year it was unrepairable and LG washed off their hands. Somehow managed to get it repaired and then sold it. Meanwhile we purchased a Sony 29" which is still in house.

Currently there are three TVs in house - the BPL 21" (working but unused), the Sony 29" and the new ST50. Also have the projector.

JK B&W 20" TV (1971 to 1983)
Dyanora Colour 21" TV (1983 to 1991) - still with me in cold storage
Dyanora Colour 21" TV (1991 to 2003)
Akai Colour 29" TV (1998 to 2008)
LG Colour 29" TV (2008 to 2012) - keeping it still
Sony Direct LED 40" (bought a week ago)
:)

Forgot to mention earlier, so adding now ... the JK black & white TV set was ALL TUBES inside. Still remember looking at its insides with awe, when the repair guy used to visit for the few outrages that it encountered in the 12 years with us.

Family (Dad)
1982 - 21" Keltron Janata B&W TV (not the one with shutters), sold when the colour TV came in 1984. I still remember it cost Rs.2400
1984 - 21" Keltron Colour TV (used till 2007 and still had life to run another 10 years or so), it cost Rs.6999, new and was a janata model
2007 - 32" Sansui LCD TV (think it cost about Rs.44000)
(after he passed away in 2009, my sister took this on and uses it)

Self
1994 - 14" B&W TV (assembled-Samtel tube,HRC board), my brother and I saved pocket money for nearly a year to pull this off (cost us Rs.1500)
1996 - 14" BPL Portable Colour TV (had started with my career by then, so had the funds, believe it or not, it cost Rs.9500 in those days)
2007 - 29" Sony Trinitron Vega (still in use, love the quality of the picture and sound, not upgrading as of now, due to this)

First TV at our home was a EC TV as well which was bought around 83-84 and we had it till around 2000. All the while the service personnel was the same for some reason, :D. Also now we talk about customer service and stuff but EC TV's service I would rate as second to none (AFAIR, :p).

From late 90's we Used Hendez 14" B&W Tv.

Then from the year 2000 onwards we Used Videocon Snazz 20" CRT.

We bought TV just to watch Ramayana on Doordarshan !! Ahh.. those were the days....

The TV was BPL INDIA and inside it was all Sanyo. The picture tube was Toshiba .. This set lasted for almost 20 years..

Our first TV was a wooden shutter B&W TV in 1982; before my birth..dont know the brand.
Was replaced within 6 months with a Dyanora 21 inch Color TV around first half of 1983. I remember the neighborhood flocking into my house to see rangoli, chitrahaar & Ramayan on a colour TV!! Had it till 1995. Its Goldstar picture tube went weak and we sold it for pebbles & stones.
Bought a Sony 21 inch Trinitron -KV 2167 MT (multi system -stereo with Made in Tokyo stamp on rear!!) in 1995 for quite a bombshell for that time - around Rs. 26500/- ). Parents gave a small Sansui in 1999 for the cricket world cup to my room @9999/-.

I started earning in 2008. Bought a Sony 32 inch LCD in Delhi for little less than 34K. Now in my hometown, I have all 3 TVs running pretty fine. Had a problem once with the Sony Trinitron, got it fixed by sony authorised SC. I like the clarity of CRT TVs anyday over the LCDs.
