Tweak PS3

Guys i recently bought a PS3..but it's not playing normal video cds/dvds...like that is written in mpegav format....like the cpu make a video dvd using nero...it plays only standarad company dvds...but no ordinary dvd video files...and in order to connect a hard disk..it must be formatted to fat32 file system...and no single file should exceed 3.9GB...as seeen in other forum....this is really disappointing...is there any solution
