Uncertainity in Plasma

I think there should be a thread where all plasma owners mention:
1. Make and model
2. Number of hours used
3. Problems they have faced (e.g. IR, burn-in, etc.)

This will help us get some data on how many owners are really happy and how many are just posting things without first hand experience.

In Indian people do not replace their TVs on a yearly basis. Plasma beats LCD hands down in picture quality at a similar price tag but with the uncertainty hanging around plasma plus all major manufacturers massively cutting down their plasma models there is hint there for everybody to see. LG and Samsung want to milk Plasma till its last shred and it has nothing to with their belief in plasma technology. At this point in time i would not advise even my worst enemy to go for a plasma. It is just not worth the hassle.

I have used several plasmas over past few years due to an ongoing problem in my area :

With my plasma sets used as normal tv, I never faced any problem of burn-in. Meybe a slight IR but it is very very temporary. I have never used any screen washing modes to correct IR. Even Tata Sky logo does not leave any IR. I watch long tennis matches .
In normal tv viewing , I think every one changes channels during breaks so this mitigates the burn-in problem (if any).
On the other hand PQ is the most important thing in the tv and according to me the black level is one of the most important component of PQ. Also viewing angle is a major consideration in PQ. In both these areas plasma is better.
I have not compared plasma with lcd or led so I cannot give my first hand opinion on this but my neighbor has a sony lcd as well as a panasonic plasma . They say that pictures on sony has pixelisation & look cartoonish whereas on panasonic life-like. They prefer to watch panasonic. Panasonic was 10k cheaper with b&w than sony which was bought from grey market.
In conclusion I can say that at a price range of 30-40k benefits of plasma far outweigh any cons .

I agree with this. Most experienced users agree with this. Burn-in is in the past. In one avsforum post, I read an instance where a user bought a floor model at a huge discount because it had noticeable IR and then "treated" his set with noise (switch to TV mode) and colour slides. Most retention was gone in two days and it became invisible within a week.

I see channel logo IR at the end of most days that I look for it. No burn in after 1 1/2 years. Only precaution taken has been to run it in TV blinking dots mode for half a minute once in a while (the last was sometime in November holiday season). Basic 2011 model - X30.
