Hi all,
Can some please suggest me in getting a good universal remote from US.
My usage is for LCD TV, Tata sky HD, WD tv, DVD player and receiver.

Thanks,
Mohan

Mohan currently I use the Harmony One remote here in US and simply love it. I have been using Harmony remotes for nearly 3-4 years and must say they are very User Friendly and their Database has most of the codes for nearly every gadget.
I would suggest you have a look at the Logitech Site at Harmony One Advanced Universal Remote to check out the product.

Please do let me know if you have any question regarding the Remote. Take care

there are tons of models available in logitech depends on how fancy u wanna go on remote.. But I'd say the 525 will do just fine for your setup.

Yeah I second the Logitech Harmony remotes - I bought the 650 and it is pretty easy to configure and use.

If the person who is buying it has a Costco membership , it might be worthwhile to check there because sometimes even the higher models are available on a big discounted sale.

If not there then Amazon or Newegg is the safest bet for reliable online service.

Actually I have normal batteries with the remote and they seem to work pretty well. If you would like to use rechargeable batteries - I would recommend low self discharge batteries like Sanyo Eneloop for uses like remotes or clocks.

BTW if you find chargeable remotes ( using a cradle) , try to avoid those because I can vouch for the pain and irritation when the battery dies down and the charger is broken. It is easier to just pop in a battery for simple low amperage applications like remotes.

thank you all for your quick replies..
Logitech harmony 650 is around 75$.. will look out for this..
can some one through some light on the diff between 525 and 650 (only color screen or any major features?)

Once again thank u all.

Once again thank u all.

They are all capable of handling the same range of devices (because it is a common software for all of them).

The 525 is discontinued in the US I think.

The logitech site has info on these remotes - the wikipedia page has information on older and current models.

They differ in number of devices each can handle, whether it has color, b&w, specific buttons, AA or AAAA etc...

Sometimes a model is discontinued because it might have a misplaced button making it difficult to use, eating up batteries, poor plastic casing etc... but they can all handle each of the 5000+ different devices in the logitech database.

Whatever you buy avoid the One-for-All series like the plague. Horrid remotes, becomes unresponsive for no rhyme or reason.

if u're getting it from US logitech Harmony 700 is an outstanding one in a budget... :)

The 650 is about $70 and the 700 is around $100. For the extra $30 this is what you get

- 1 more device to connect simultaneously( 650 - 5 , 700 - 6)
- rechargeable battery
- cradle/charger

TV + STB + HT + (BD/DVD)+ Media Player = 5

If your normal setup is more than this - it would be easier/cheaper to use the difference to just buy high grade rechargeable batteries or new standard batteries and after 3 years buy the next available model.
