Is PS3 Phat/Slim region free for DVDs? Will these play both NTSC/PAL formats?

The phat PS3 is not region free for DVDs. I have a 5/C model, purchased legally in India and can, therefore, tell you this.

What is even worse is that the PS3 sometimes fails to play discs marked Region 5. An example would be the Star Trek movie recently released on DVD in India. That supposed region 5 DVD will NOT play on the PS3 as it does not recognise it as a region 5 disc?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!

PS3 cannot be modded yet

My model is 120GB PS3 Slim , Purchased in Feb 2010 on Amazon, Model: CECH-2001A

Though the console says only 120v and also the manual says the same it still works perfectly without any converter on 240V in India.

PS: This applys to only PS3 slim, for earlier versions of PS3, please research the net as I do not know if it supports the same.
