Upgrade my amplifier

Very few integrated amps have built-in DAC as well as built-in phono.

I have a Lyngdorf 3400 for sale that would tick all your boxes except phono stage. Plus it has great room correction as Panditji mentioned.

No Luxman amps come with built-in DAC. Accuphase has DAC as optional additions but no streamer.

But the problem is that a DAC worthy of a 4L Luxman or Accuphase will cost you 2L, so keep that in mind.

Good idea. I will visit Kitab Mahal once things normalise. But I am also keen on forum members inputs about using Peachtree Nova as pre amp and going for CA edge series power-amp

In my limited opinion....that would be a side ways move and will not entail the kind of upgrade you are looking for. The voicing, tone and sound signature is mostly defined by the preamp. So adding a power amp to the preouts of the nova won't improve much from what you presently have. Besides you will idle money locked up in the nova too. Maybe best to sell the nova for now and add that you amp upgrade war chest.

In my experience I felt adding a pre+ power amp helps if the speakers are difficult to drive, and one wants to use a tube preamp. Or in the case of SS power amps, a pre + SS mono blocks is the way to go. Or for the cost of a SS pre + SS power sterep amp. A combined cost integrated will sound better for the same money, as you will be saving on the costs of the additional casing, packing and marketing. All the best :)

Hi Manu,

That does sound logical. Given the nova 300's power specs what if it used as a power amp ?

Rgs,
Nitin

Hi Nitin :)

If you are looking for a upgrade, then better to consider something else further up the chain. Or if you want to try a different sound, then you can add a tube preamp for a very romantic tone and use the Peachtree as a power amp :)

Universal reviews of the Peachtree are very favourable. And I feel it Will take considerably more money to improve on that :)

Just checking for my understanding. Can we use only the power section of an integrated? I was always under the impression that one can only use the pre section by connecting the pre-outs of the integrated to a power amp? How does one bypass the pre-section of an integrated and use it as a power amp?
Thanks !

There are certain IA models have that option mentioned as HT by pass mode or power Amp Direct In mode.
Eg - check this link IA models which can offer HT bypass mode

Most integrated amps also have a jumper connection between something called "Main In" and "Pre In" or words to that effect.

By removing these jumper connections and connecting a preamp output to "Main In" enables the integrated to be run as a power amp.

As @reachkalyan.kr has correctly mentioned, some integrated amps like the Peachtree nova and parasound hint come with direct power amps inputs, called as HT bypass. So they can be used with the inbuilt preamp or an external preamp or from preamps of AV receiver if used in a combined HT + 2 channel system :)
