Hi All,

I was inquiring for UPS for my projector - Benq 1070 and AVR - Yamaha 196
The Microtek person suggested to go for two UPS instead of one.

Wanted to know from gurus if this is right thing?

In our society, there in one common Generator set which switch on when power fails. Sometimes the switch over is quick and sometime might taken 2-3 minutes.

So during this switch over, I want to protect my projector and AVR system from surge and need some standby time so that I can switch off projector.

He is quoting
INR 3400/- Microtek - 800VA for Projector (Line-interactive)
INR 3400/- Microtek - 800VA for AVR (Line-interactive)

ELSE

INR 5000/- Microtek - 1KVA for for both AVR and Projector (Line-interactive)

Please let me know if I should go for two UPS or single? also, if the above power watts is correct one?

Projector is around 300 W and say AVR is 300 W, so total is 600W, so from my limited understanding I think that - INR 5000/- Microtek - 1KVA for both AVR and Projector (Line-interactive) should be sufficient.

If I go with two UPS, then I think instead of 800VA, 600VA should be sufficient for each device i.e. Projector and AVR

My experience - neither 600VA, nor 800VA was able to support my PJ (Acer H5370BD). I had to buy a 1KVA one.

I am also in the same boat. I am planning to take 1 kva APC line interactive for my projector. Will take vguard digi stabilizer for AVR.

Re: UPS for Projector .. Single or Double ..line intractive -zero switch over time?!!

Update..

I went to microtech dealer to have a word ... my query was, in line interactive UPS there is going to be 5-6 milli seconds of switch over time, then during the switch over projector is likely to be switched off . (in our apartment we do have common genset which takes over immediately or sometime takes 1 to 5 minutes, so power back up requirement is just to switch off projector when powered on UPS)

He had a suggestion to use "power reboot cable" between the UPS and load (Projector). i.e. it seems its a BIG CAPACITOR (may be like the one in ceiling FAN ) which is inbuilt the power cable itself.

the idea is that, during the switch over to UPS the capacitor will take the load for mili seconds so that, it appears as good as no lag. (like the one in online UPS)

I am not at all sure how this will work, or is it advisable.

Will there be issue with sine wave power which line interactive UPS give

having capacitor between load and UPS ..will it cause issue to projector, will it add noise, will the output be sine wave?

Can I have expert comments please? has someone tried it ?
I am confused

I suggest you to go for a 1kva ups. The switch over time of UPS is fast and it will not affect the pj. LI UPSs have quasi sine wave out, which is not pure sine wave, but it is sufficient for pj and other devices working on smps power supply.

Sorry..so when you say 1kva..you mean line interactive or online?..and do projector has smps built in already?

1KVA online is better, but it is expensive. A LI model is the next best choice. Most electronics these days use smps power supply.

- Go for 1kva quasi-sine wave. For my Optoma HD20, i got APC BR1100 model (1kva) and it's good enough. 800VA did not work out, so I went for 1kva. cost about 5.5k INR.

- AVR, no need for UPS as you are not dealing with delicate parts like bulbs.

just my 2 paisa!

Thanks everyone for guiding..I am now going for 1kv line interactive ..either Microtek or APC

...reg AVR shall I opt for servo stabalizer as mentioned above?.. If so, any pointers as what would be power needed / brand/ price/ link..? Please
