Hi FMs

I've come across a guy who's selling a Sonodyne RP 4000D.

It looks to be in good cosmetic condition.

Now I've a belt driven Cosmic Co gram 2000 already
and this sonodyne is a direct drive one.

My humble questions are :

1. How much should I pay for it ?

2. Is DD better then belt drive ones ?

3. Is this model (Sonodyne RP 4000D) is a good one ?

4. On which international model is it based ?

5. Is it a rebadged model, if yes which one ?

sorry for these many questions FMs, but I'm clueless over this.

Calling all FMs and Gurus of our esteemed forum for help.

PS : I've to let this guy know about buying by tomorrow....so plz hurry

Cheers n Thanks

Dear FMs

plz advice....

Not sure about Sonodyne but the HMV EMI Sonic Direct Drive turntable is most probably, a Pioneer design. Cosmic India used to sell re-badged Akai equipment (and in some cases, even with Cosmic-Akai co-branding). Similarly, Bush used the same co-branding approach with Bush-Akai.

On another note, how do you play your 200 odd shellac 78s?

I play them on columbia handwound gramophone

and each time I play them I know I'm killing them softly

Thanks for info Rueben

I think you should get yourself a Garrard changer with a 78 stylus and light weight tonearm. You'll get better sounds and also your record collection will be preserved.

what a coincidence Rueben

I'd just come across a Gerrard changer with multi speed options.

however it's missing the cartridge ....

where can I acquire a cartridge for it ?

To play 78s on a Garrard changer, you will need a ceramic cart with a sapphire flip stylus. Put out a listing in the wanted section and I am sure some FMs will be able to help. I am sure these are still available in places like Kolkatta.
