Hi ,

I am planning to set up a dedicated home theater room. The Room size is 220 sq ft (22 ft long and 10 ft wide ). I have decided on the amp. It will be Denon AVR x2000. But i am not being able to decide on the speakers .

1.I listened to Focal Sib & Cub 5.1 . It sounded good.

2.Then, i listened to Polk audio (Front : TSX 440 T , Sub : DSW Pro 660, Rear : TSX 110 B, Center : TSX 150 C). Polk sounded great. But it went slightly over budget. ( Budget was about 1L-1.2L including the amp).

I am confused whether for my room size Focal Sib & cub would suffice or should i go for Polk (by pushing my budget a lil higher) ?

I would suggest to push your budget a little higher and go for bigger and more powerful one. I am presuming that your speaker will be firing down the 22 ft. At such distance small cubes will not be able to deliver crisp sound.

After buying the sib and cub if you find that the sound is not reaching you (which is most likely) and the dialogues are not clear, it will be very annoying and most importantly complete waste of money. A floorstander is always a thing of delight for movie watching :)

please listen to more speakers. Polks are good but there are others as well. You need to demo as many possible.

Hi rahulsinghania

Considering the distance and placement, you may want to consider decent floor standers or bookshelf speakers...Satellite speakers work well within a 250 sq ft area then they sound as if they are screaming...but again...it depends on what satellites you hear and use.....brands may vary from each other.....

Audition as many speakers as you can ...what you need to ensure is that the speakers impedance is same like the AVR or more. This will avoid the overheating technical issues...

Matching Amps and Speakers - Do we Need to Worry?

Higher sensitivity (88db and above) will ensure better pickup and performance. Remember..bigger the speaker cones better the throw....Ensure that the speakers are 25-60% more in Watts RMS than the AVR output. Most important factor is to ensure that speakers you choose perform across all frequencies (20hz - 20khz) if not all then most frequencies.......

At the end of the day you need to see what appeals to you in appearance, performance, looks and ofcourse budget...AVRs will change with competitive formats and features every year ...you need to ensure that you get the right set of speakers (typically one time investment) there are a number of online reviews and videos over the internet to help you out to choose and decide wisely....if budget is a constrain would advise you to buy the front speakers first then the centre and then the surrounds....you can add a subwoofer later....(if required).

Floorstanders which are good are Bostons, B&W, Wharfedale, Polks RTi A7 etc....You can do a mix and match of brands....for a good 5.1 setup....you need to ensure that the centre speaker and subwoofer are of good quality and output as most of the performance is done by them...the fronts and surrounds are just there to provide effects....

Shortlist a few brands / models and let us know to help you better....

Hi rahul,

22 ft seems to be a big room. If possible take demo in a similar room size or request that salesman for special demo in your room.

You will get better idea. As others pointed out the sounds might be to your liking in the showroom setup but might be dissappointed once it is set in the room and the power is not sufficient or dialogue clarity might not be good at that distance.

Definitely in your case you need to demo in your room or similar dimension roon and buy. Otherwise you will be in for a surprise.

In addition if you are planning of acoustic treatment for the HT then you might need more power to pump since the sound reflections are reduced.
