Hello everyone i m new here and this is my first post.i just got myself a SONY BRAVIA 40EX650 LED TV.i want to connect it as a monitor for my desktop and the hi-fi sony audio system which i am already using with my desktop as an audio output device.do i have to buy HDMI cable (not supplied with TV)?if yes i do not know whether my PC supports HDMI or not or should i buy VGA cable and connect my CPU with the TV?third option is (i read it in the TV manual) a D-sub 15(no idea what it is) cable?please help any solution is appreciated.thanks

You can connect PC to TV with HDMI, DVI or VGA depending on whether your TV supports these inputs. Unless your motherboard already supports HDMI you will need to get a GPU with HDMI... or you can go the route of VGA or DVI if the TV supports it.

Yes, you will need to buy HDMI cable (any brand will do, even cheap will be good).

thanks for the reply mate how do i know my pc supports hdmi or not i just got it upgraded 2 weeks back.the tv is full hd

Check at the back and see if there is a HDMI port. If you are not sure better get someone with knowledge of PCs to do it for you.

A HDMI output should look like this.

Of note, if your TV supports either VGA or DVI input then there is no need for HDMI. Both VGA and DVI offer same PQ as HDMI and support same resolutions (actually more since PCs have higher resolutions than TVs).

i dont see any such port in my CPU but i can tell that that the tv supports both VGA and HDMI.btw i use intel G630 processor which supports Intel HD graphics

How is your monitor connected? If its with VGA cable then its simple... take that cable and connect to TV and you are all set.

If however its DVI and there is no VGA option you are back to square one and need to get a GPU or a mobo with HDMI.

yes my pc monitor is connected with VGA but the VGA port on the TV is different from 3 pin type connected to the monitor of pc.how can it b connected?

d sub is VGA.....what to worry...
how can be your vga port in tv be different.......it should be just like your monitor...
check carefully

+1. It is better you have a friend who knows computers to help you connect the PC to the TV. Then he can show you how to do it or set it up permanently (depending on your need).

dada i may sound silly but the TV has a VGA port(with screws) and the VGa cable connecting my PC monitor has screws but only on 1 end(one which is plugged in CPU).do i reverse the ends and connect the screws end to the TV and other end to the CPU?

Buy one separate vga cable with screws both end and connect it from cpu to tv...forget the cable which is attached to pc monitor..it's one ended cable only..you can't use it in tv.

thanks @lake1988.one more thing i need to know i have already connected my SONY hi-fi with my pc and have been using it for 6 yrs what do i need to do to get sound from hi-fi while using tv as computer monitor?also do i need to upgrade to HDMI enabled CPU or VGA does just fine?

yes u can connect aux out of hifi to pc audio-in of the tv.

No point of buying vga to hdmi converter..buy a graphics card which got hdmi output instead.

will i get the sound both when i am using PC(with TV as monitor) and when i am just watching TV?looks like i have f*** it i got my pc updated 1 week back.

If you want the sound of cpu you need to connect audio output from cpu to that pc audio in..then if you are playing some music on pc you can hear it on pc.

If you connect aux out of hifi to pc audio in of tv you will hear sound of hifi while you will see the video output of pc on tv.

bro i m thinking of getting a graphic card and a HDMI cable HDMI gives both audio and video and i will keep the hi-fi connected to the TV
