Hi Guys,

Need a good pair of fronts for music as well as 5.1 HT. Right now going for the fronts and will get the rest later. Have already demoed polk audio TSi400, Aviano 6, wharfedale vardus 400, Jamo, Mission MV8 & MX5.

Budget : 30k
Receiver : marantz 1402

I have shortlisted the MX3 and M35i. Unfortunately I am unable to demo any of these speakers are the dealer will only order on confirmation. So I demoed the MX5 which were awesome, loved the sound, just to get an idea since it belongs to the same MX series. I have not heard anything from the M series but have read good reviews on the forum.

I now need to decide ASAP between the MX3 and M35i. any suggestions, comments???

MX series is an improvement over the M series which are the ones the MX series replaced. Finding the M series speakers would be difficult also as most dealers will now be having the new MX series, unless someone has old stock with them or get them for you from the Mission Distri.
Since you liked the MX5, why don't you stick to them??? Don't get too obsessed with the 'what if' w r t the M series. You would be wasting time & more importantly losing out on enjoying your music/movies.

:)

thanks for your reply.........the dealer has stock for MX3, MX5 and M35i. I was under the impression the MX series is a more entry level series while the M series was more higher up. Also, the specs on the M35i look better than the MX3. I am unable to find any proper review for the M35i while most reviews have really praised the MX3. Was almost going to finalize MX3 but then the dealer said he also has stock for M35i so was thinking.

Since dealer has all 3, why don't you do A/B/C of the MX3,5 & M35's??? Decide which sound best & pick'em up. Simple no????

If a particular speaker sounds good to you, you buy that, end of story so what has 'entry level' & 'reviews' got to do with it?

TRUST YOUR EARS!!!

:)

Hi, amongst the 3, only the MX5 is in Poona, the rest are in Mumbai. Therefore I am unable to demo before I buy them. I have only heard one speaker which is the MX5. And I am not even looking at the MX5 since it is not in the budget. Just hoping the the MX3 would sound similar being a part of the same series. It would be great for me to be able to demo all three and then decide which sounds the best but unfortunately I am not in a position to do so.

You liked MX3 more than Aviano 6?

Aviano 6 takes the cake...........no comparison but is over my budget. Tried my best to get the price down but no luck, hence I am now looking at Mission. what would be your suggestion......MX3 vs M35i?

1st you said dealer has all 3, then you said only MX5 is there & that is out of your budget. You are 1 confused person confusing us too

If you are trying to make a decision of buying speakers based on others recommendations then that is a wrong approach & may backfire on you. Take demo of the speaker(s) in your budget paired with the amp/source if you have already bought & then decide!

BTW, since your plan is to build a 5.1 around the front speakers, make sure you get the matching centre speaker to that of the fronts!

I demoed the MX series from mission and did not like them, which one is immaterial. Ask for others opinion.

Did you like any of the Jamos?

Did you try Wharf 9.1?

no stock for wharf 9 series fronts here............only wharf 10.5, out of budget.

Sorry if I sound confused........Let me clarify. The main dealer is in Mumbai who has the MX3 and M35i. I am sitting in Pune with the local dealer who only has MX5. Looking at my budget I can only go with the MX3 or M35i but since they are in Mumbai I am forced to make the decision based on expert reviews and comments.

Amongst all the speakers I have heard I like the Aviano 6 and the Mission MX5 the best...........better than the polks, jamos, etc.......

Hey Aakash,

Don't get me wrong, but you should not be looking at floor stander fronts in the "strictly below 30k" range. Especially now when the rupee value is very bad.

Thanks,

Aquarius - Pune has a year old Paradigm Monitor 7's and they are letting it go for 32k . Not too sure if they still have it. Check with Behram

I have heard the Mission's at Soundscape and to put it bluntly I found them to be pathetic.

I would pick a Wharf 9.5 or 10.4 over the mission's any day.

was quite disappointed when Behram said he only has the wharf 10.5 since the 10.4 would have been perfect budgetwise. Will check on the Paradigm. How would they sound compared to Mission?

Thanks a lot.

In all fairness, I've not heard the Mission and Paradigm side by side or with the same equipment.

I heard the MX5 with Creek CDP and Lyrita Amp.
the overall sound with muddy and garbled - Considering that the the CDP nor the AMP could be faulted. It had to be the speakers
I remember playing
Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
Maria Glen - Cost of freedom .

Before asking to change the speakers.

Paradigm's I've heard with Denon recently and in the past heard the M7v6 with NAD CDP and NAD356 if i recollect correctly.

Monitor 7's have a much cleaner sound and although a Tad bright. they are still a very commendable speaker for the price. The only shortfall I would say with be Bass response. They don't dig deep enough for my liking. I would go as far as to say they are large Bookshelves.

So between the 2 my pick would be Paradigm by a huge margin.

Another option considering you are on a tight budget would be the Wharf 9.5. They have got rave reviews and a lot of Fm's own the 9.5 and have been extremely pleased with it. I have the Wharf 9.6 and although I barely use, they still surprise me for their price to performance ratio.

In short, I liked the Paradigms, Aviano and Jamos in their price ranges while I did not like the Mission and Wharfedales in their price range.

Below are highlights..

Paradigm - Bright, lively sound in the price range.
Wharfedale - Laid back, dynamic, non accurate sound stage. (opposite of paradigm)
Jamo Concert - Midrange details and soundstage in the range.
Mission - Mixed up sound. Not recommend for stereo (at all). but since you are looking for HT you might be impressed
Aviano -Best bass extension, grunt, bass quality, recessed mids. (good for HT)

You decide what is important.
