I understand Videocon manufactures for Philips and also provides service back up. And many Videocon TVs are priced less for similar specs. Then what is the reason for preferring Philips? Is it because of brand value?

Just because videcon is assembling/manufacturing led tvs for philips, it doesn't make them same.
Hence, videocon may be manufacturing for philips but it cannot use philips proprietory tech in its own TVs. In this case its the heart of the TV, the picture processing engine.

This is where branded TVs like Sony or Panasonic etc are preferred over local or newer brands cause they have much superior picture processing engines where years of research and investment has gone into.

Take the case of Sony LEDs, people are ready to pay a premium due of its famed x reality pro engine, which truly is brilliant.
In this case philips led has the tried n tested much appreciated pixel precise/pixel plus picture processing engine whereas videocon has some uknown engine.

I would always choose this brand, known for making some of the best lcd tvs of its time n I am testament to that using its famed n much appreicated tech inluding its pixel plus/precise/ultra engines over a very new unknown brand using unknown tech.
The above arguments stands only if the price is same or in similar ballpark.

In this case, you are getting the same 3 yr warranty, same size n same price too, then why would anyone go for videcon over Philips...I fail to understand.
Unless, philips after sales is very bad at his/her city n one knows this for sure, over videcon after sales.

Videocon is not providing after sales for Philips,at least not in my city. Phillips itself is providing after sales for its TVs.

Would also like too add, these days looks also play a crucial role for some, philips led looks fabulous with its slim bezels n brushed metal stand, compered to bulky looking with age old design n form factor of the 40" videocon led I saw. Don't know if the 50" one has the same form factor or not.
Philips led even though a vfm offering, looks as good if not better then premium Sony or samung or Panasonic LEDs in terms of its form factor.
Even its remote control is faaar superior looking n sleeker then these upcming brands and much better then my own Sony LCDs which is big n bulky n plasticky.

I think I have discussed enough about its superiroty over videcon, be it its internals or its external form factor n appearance...phew ... ;-)

you can be brand ambassador for Philips:ohyeah:::)

However as regards Sony or Samsung with the so called superior processing chip even in this forum there is divided opinion as to the unrealistic bright pictures produced them which may appear to be impressive initially but many feel eye fatigue in the long run, Some therefore prefer IPS panels as in LG. Each to his own poison. Some companies have both VA and IPS panel LEDs in their range.

Hahha....I definitely can be a brand ambassador for philips...true that.
I totally agree with what u saying, to each his own people will always have divided opinion.

For example BMW makes great cars, but some people dont like them for their own reasons n prefer other brands.
But if u r getting BMW for the price of a honda....then ?
I am giving the above example to support my point of view of buying a philips over videocon.

I m not saying Videocon is bad but when u can get a brand like philips knownfor making some great tvs, for more or less the same price why even look at these brands.
Yes, if the savings are substantial then one should definitely take a gander, like in the case of micromax.

When I said superior processing engines I was only reffering to Sony and panasonic apart from philips, for me Samsung or Lg don't stand a chance n I personally won't even look at em for anytime soon.
Yes, ur right....to my eyes Samsung n lg both look too unrealistic n saturated PQ.I am all for natural looking PQ, one of the reasons I have always liked philips.

When I looked for a big tv, I have shortlisted 47 inch LG5610 and 50 inch Panasonic A410D - both available with 60K. I had also considered Philips, but rejected it for two reasons, (1) many people have reported white wash issue - screen becomes too white and (2) their collaboration with Videocon - the model I hate most because of several bad experiences in past. Finally I bought LG 5610 over Panasonic A410 because Panasonic was not playing many of the movie formats in USB - otherwise it is a fantastic TV.

me too looking into 47 or 49 inch lg tv ( LG 47LB5610 or LG 49LB5510.)
The only issue i noticed when i bought LG tv (LV5500) a few years ago was that there was no support to play video with DTS audio support. I noticed in spec same issue in the above 2 models. Only this model LG 47LB5820 mentions DTS Decoder in its spec. Anybody using 2014 LG TV facing DTS issue ?
