Hi,
Airtel has signed for broadcasting viswaroopam on the day before film's release. You guys have any idea whether it'll be a HD transmission or not?

Regards,
Madhur

That could be just film promo.

No, Matbhuvi, the movie is being shown on DTH platform at Rs. 1000.
There is in fact a controversy going on between the producers of the
movie and distributors, exhibitors. Must have been sorted out by
now.

Kamal Haasan wants to experiment with his new movie. HD or not,
you would certainly not get Auro audio.

WoW. But Rs.1000 is overpriced. 250 would have been better.

For Rs.1000/-, it's a steal. Imagine the cost of 6 members going to a theatre from your family and the hassle you have to face - online booking, parking space, traffic jams, overpriced popcorns and softies at theatres, rowdy crowds dancing, whistling and generally disturbing the crowd - with all these distractions, I would anytime prefer to watch the new movie, that also one day before the release, on my 120" projector screen via my projector connecting the dth to projector (if that's possible) , if not then large screen tv is also ok. The final cost would be much cheaper than going to a theatre. I whole heartedly welcome Kamal's initiative. Let this be a trend maker.

Cheers:)

I'm not sure though if this movie will be shown throughout the day or shown only at a particular time - god forbid if someone has paid 1K to airtel dth to view this movie and there is a power cut (which is very frequent and for long duration in Tamil Nadu at present) during the movie show time - his 1K will go for a toss. Obviously no refund guys.

Cheers:lol:

I heard that they are using new type of sound system, even Kamal showed it to Ang Lee, when he was there to promote Life of PI.

1000 Rs or not, such movies are best seen on the big screen.

Thanks for sharing information, will have to check with Airtel guys now.

I read in news that it'll bea one time show at a particular time. As you said, if power goes off, your money as well. We can't even record it if you have a DVR with some encryption that they are going to activate.

Siva, encryption or no, Burma Bazar guys would be ready with their high tech equipment to record it.

+1000. I might end up spending lot more than 1000. But, viewing in theater especially with the fans is a completely different experience.

True. There is no doubt in that. Even i would have opted to watch in theater but still I prefer to watch in DTH because my wife cannot travel at the moment, She is carrying. I never miss kamal movies but also feel guilty to go watch the movie alone. So, I've planned to be entertained at home :ohyeah:.

Either its going to be SD or HD transmission I'll watch it, I thought HD would be better and I'm just curious to know it.

all of u never think of sound format?? u can very well connect DTH to projector but who will broadcast atleast 5.1 dobly if not DTS, unless its HD feed????
thats the difference u will have when u go for such mega movies...
its not worth in DTH unless they feed HD with atleast 5.1 format..

Airtel has officially announced that they would premiere Viswaroopam on Jan 10th at 9.30 p.m. The pay per view amount is Rs.500/- It would be released in theatres on 11th of Jan. As per the latest news the theatre owners association has refused to screen the filim if it would be shown on DTH. Seems like Kamal is all set for a showdown with theatre association.

exciting news but i'd prefer to let it finish its theatrical run and appear on TV so that the folks at home can watch it without having to pay Rs.1000 for pay per view or over Rs.1000 for cinema viewing

Sun direct, videocon, Tata sky, Dish TV and reliance DTH are also joining hands now :ohyeah: Relay is scheduled on 10th January 9.30 pm.

Madhur

Will Kamal foregoes one day's collection and sell it less for theatres? He is trying to experiment at the expense of theatre owners and squeeze money, that too in the tamil industry where even the original dvds are not being released long after it has stopped screeing in theatres (and gets pirated from S'pore). In this connection, hindi, telugu are better off where they screen the movies for pay per view after a decent run at the theatres. This is the model in hollywood too and a sensible one.
Kamal is trying to be oversmart and to going to burn his fingers. If i were a theatre owner i would not buy his film.

Cool,

First we need to understand that Ppl got used to a habit of watching New or fresh films in Home with pirated version(It could be taken from Theater on mobile cam, hand cam.. or even imported from foreign countries like Singapore or malaysia.

So none of the activity can bring the crowd back to theater at all for any time in future, the are ment to be "TV audience or fans" .

At same time the pirated version also cannot be stopped or blocked or even limited as "Its something happening like a Underworld business including the Cops:)"

The ticket cost has been raise heavily, even that is some how acceptable but the GREEDY multiplex owners\management restricting even a water bottle to be carried inside the Theater hall, and selling the 12-16INR bottle for 25 and all the eatables are double then available outside.
So the film viewing cost includes Film ticket+ Misc and Misc are bit more than than the ticket cost. This is one of the reason none is turning out to theaters as getting scared.

Satellite rights is one of the best way get a good profit for producer before the release of film.So SET top box rights screening also gives a new revenue for Producer of the film.

If you have read recent interview of Ulaga naagan then, then might have come to a conclusion.

As per the Stat only 3% of the TN people\Fans have DTH connection for that particular service provider. So i dont think how this going to affect the Audience coming to theater?

Moreover the film cannot be Reproduced,so spreading of duplicate Copies is not possible.

In Conclusion " If a person have Mind set- to watch in theater, he seldome think to watch in Home in Pirate version"

If someone has mentality to watch film in home"feeling its cost efficient" then no way we can pull them to theaters"

If the theaters reduce the ticket Rates and snacks rate,Parking Rate, then Pirate dvd can be stopped also protesting against DTH release also will be meaningful.

But we all know nothing going to happen.

Lets see how the Future of Tamil films is going to be!

With an expense of Rs.500 for pirate gangs, awesome copy is going to be flooding all over India by end of the day of telecast for sure.

Imagine if it is watched in Home Theatre with Projector with all the necessary gadgets it can be recorded in Full HD on the day of telecast in DTH and will flood the cities and towns before next day morning release.:p:p

If the film is released like this in DTH one day before no need of waiting for cam prints or pirated prints from singapore... Our own latest mobile phone + ipad + tabs with HD recording will do the duty in tamilnadu + india.

Srini,

I have a friend working for a Set top box company, who informed that the FILM cannot be recorded in DTH Box like normal Programs as the use some Paging technology(Not sure about the exact technology). Also it cannot be converted to any form of copy. Fully family(Ex 5 Mem) going for a Multiplex for a film would cost more than 2K on release day(The tickets would be double during the first week of the release) including Tickets,Travelling,Parking, snacks etc.

DTH is VFM, for audience and producers and also for small theater owners. I don't know why but i hate the rules followed in MULTIPLEX on fixing the rates.

I know it is encrypted. I highlighted there is no control if it is recorded in HD camera by projecting in PJ in your house:)
