Hi friends !

This is my first post in HiFiVision !

I have been struggling to get hold of an used integrated amplifier for my Dyn Focus 110 !

I would love to buy Naim Nait 5 for my new setup.

Please send me a message if any one is upgrading !

Cheers !

welcome to the forum..

Naim is gaining popularity.. keep a check on for sale thread as Naim's are known to get sold in fraction of time.

you might want to go with an amp that has more juice than the 50W of the naim nait 5i.

Please keep your options open.

The Odyssey Khartago comes to mind with a promethius pre.. depends on your budget

Or the Creek Destiny 2..

there could be other options as well.

If you wanna go with the Dynaudios.. try to go with atleast 100W at 8 ohms on tap.

Else.. the higher integrateds from naim or their pre power

You budget is important here

Dear mpw,

Many thanks for your suggestions. I appreciate.

I tried many jumbo vintages >130 WPC RMS @ 4 ohms and found that they are confusing the dyn's to their best ability, rather struggling to make the dyns sing.

I am it a tight corner, and somehow making my baby Marantz push the Dyns.

How do you guess Primare i21 will do the job?

Tech spec is as below:-

Technical specifi cation
Output power per channel 2 x 75W into 8?,
2 x 125W into 4?
Speaker terminals 4 16 ?
Output impedance <0.08
DC offset <5mV (servo controlled)
Line inputs 330mV
Tape outputs 300mV
Frequency response <10Hz 100kHz, -3dB
THD 0.05% (1kHz, 10V into 8?)
Signal-to-noise, line -100dB (A-weighted)
Power consumption, standby <12W
Peak current 25A
Dimensions (WxDxH) 430 x 385 x 100mm
Weight 13,5kg

Cheers !

If u use only 1 source - the Odyssey Cyclops distributed by ARV in bangalore is a good bet.

Its a power amp with 1 input and volume control.

I cannot comment on the Primare as i have not heard it.

I think there is a kenwood 135W amp for sale in kolkata.. refer the forum sale thread.. try to take your speakers to his place and see if they sing.

If they do.. that that will be your cheapest and luckiest option

Hope the Focus 110 is on stands.

I feel very old reading this.

Naim amps were the rage when I was in college in the mid 1980s...not that they do not continue to produce very good products. In the 80s they dominated the magazines and almost all young audiophiles aspired to these products, especially as they were suited to the music we listened to with its lively character.

It is good to see that is gaining popularity once again, although it always had a niche dedicated following.

Dear Vijay,

Very Good Morning ! I auditioned my Dyn with Cambridge audio 851A amplifier. It sounds fab ! Great sound field ! Terrific dynamic !

But something was missing may be the finesse, that Naim offers IMHO !

I do not know am talking sense or just fascinated by the Naim's silence when there is no music in a track or the quality of voice it is able to reproduce!

Am sure there will be better people to express what I mean !

Cheers !

not exactly true

i have playd a lot with the dynes

their power hungry notion is not fully true in any of their current range of bookshelves
xcites,focus, etc

they just need a good stereo amp - even some 50 rms
the 50 rms Naim will drive them and so will a 60-75 rms arcam

only the contour would like a bit more power
but anybody buying a contour would in most cases have a good amp

recievers will just not do

i have loved the contour 1.3's
its a bloody brilliant speaker as hell

i would pic it over a floorstander ( barring a couple ) anyday for a medium room

Contour 1.3SE sings better than most floorstanders and has better bass than most floorstanders too when paired with the right amp.

dont agree fully .....

the 50 W naim may drive them - but how well will it be able to handle the current demand placed by the speaker on the amp for transients is subject to question..

also a lower power amp will restrict the volume control in the sense the ability to go loud.

when i meant 100W at 8 ohm.. i meant high quality ( even Supernait or naim pre power or the odyssey range ).

I am not sure of the Naim Nait 5i will cut it with the focus 110.

overall power rating maybe a wrong measure for Dyns. the "problem" they usually have is low impedance and a phase difference around 40 Hz. hence the amp should be able to take that load and still be able to deliver the current needed at this frequency.
am sure a 30W accuphase amp will drive them very well due to their ability to deliver the same current despite the load

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
