One of the showroom guys who got familiar due to my innumerable visits had an offer for me. He knows some employee in Sony who can get me a discounted LED Tv(of course minus some commission for himself). Only hitch is it will be registered in the employees name. My question is.....

1. Is transfer of warranty to my name possible?

2. Is it necessary to transfer to my name to avail warranty facility or even go for extended warranty, or I can continue with it being registered in his name?

Don't think so it would be possible as he would get employee discount on the TV.Hence ownership would be nontransferable.

But is it necessary to transfer the warranty? I mean do I have to show my ID card or some such thing to claim warranty?

If there needs to be a claim under warranty, you will have to produce the original warranty and the original invoice - both of which not be in your name. HTH.

Of course. And probably I will have both from him. My question is will the company verify on whose name warranty is issued? I could always claim it belongs to my cousin or any such thing. So specifically I am asking if the company rejects warranty if there is nobody by the warranty owners name in the house.

More generally for any electronic items even for such like IPads, tabs mobiles etc which are often traded within warranty period, I have never heard of warranty being rejected due it having been traded.

I was about to say that..i dont think that matters..TV manufactures will only be worried about whether you brought it in an authorized shop with a proper bill or not...Correct me if i am wrong..

You are quoting based on experiences in the West. Here, manufacturers/sellers will go to any extent to deny warranty, especially when high costs of replacement is involved.

Maybe the service people will verify identity, maybe not. It is a chance you will have to take. Then again, the standard warranty is for one year only. In this time period, usually nothing happens. So it all boils down to, "Are you willing to take a chance?". You will have to base the decision on:

- How much you are saving?
- What is the chance of device going bad during the warranty period?
- What is the chance that warranty may be denied?
- Basically, you are buying a used item. How comfortable are you with an used item?
- What is the chance of item not being up to immaculate standard. Remember, the definition of "immaculate or pristine condition" varies from person to person.

I am not trying to persuade or dissuade you. But you must figure this yourself.

All you need is the warranty card and there will be no mention of the name in warranty card. However in the warranty card the date printed will be that of from the day the product was shipped out from the Sony warehouse.
Since in my Sony SLT camera the warranty card had the date from which it was shipped to the store and its a sealed pack with Sony tamper-proof seal.So dealers will not touch the warranty card.

Even if the service personal ask for the bill (which is unlikely if you have a warranty card)they will not bother about the name of the person who bought it all they care is whether it was a bought officially in india and not a grey market piece.

FYI i registered my Sony SLT camera online in my name where as the bill/invoice was in the name of my brother.Sony customer care did call me regarding this but they finally approved the registeration. In my case i bothered to register because if i did so i get a free 50mm prime lens for the A57 SLT.

Even on the Sony website there is no specific mention of non transferability of warranty.

Just4kix it's a brand new Sony Led tv(could even be the latest W900A, when it is released;) at a cool 25% discount minus a small commission., and not a used one.

There is no any issue in one getting warranty service even if the item is not owned by him/her. It is some thing like I purchase a TV (of course from an authorised centre) and give it to my parents who are in their native place and they can still avail the service as long as they have the original warranty card (invoice may not be required if the showroom seal and date are present on the warranty card).

One of my friends bought Sony EX-520 through an employee of Sony for a discount and he got his panel replaced within a month. So there is no issue in getting a TV from the Sony employee. Only thing is there should be a warranty card issued by a genuine showroom/centre.

Thank you. I was looking precisely for this type of real life instance.
