WD-40 Effective Usage

I have been reading up on how best to lubricate a DIY bearing for a Lenco L75 that I am planning to make. I keep coming across one piece of advice - WD40 is not to be used for lubricating turntable bearings or tonearm bearings. It is a cleaner. And it is quite effective in removing rusts and expelling water.

If at all one must use WD 40 to clean up rust and old grease or oil, one must make sure that all traces of WD40 are wiped off and given some time for it to completely evaporate, and then the appropriate lubricant must be applied. WD40 is not a lubricant.
