Does this media player provide the clarity of a blue ray player.
can i download HD movies from u torrent, and play the content on this media player.

Is WD the best in this space or other player have better offrings, like storage space etc....

Please advice.

Thank you guys !!
but what about VFM, is it a fair comparison cos the oppo and other Blue ray players are at least 4 time more expensive than the WD

your thought?

In this months av-Max,they have given 5star to Xstreamer,Rhyon player for PQ & SQ(digital) testing Bluray ISO.
WD live got less stars.

VFM is without doubt Media Players like WD, XT etc, plus u aint constrained with region locks etc. Only thing, u need to have a BluRay rom to rip the contents.

VFM is anyday a media player.

Comparing media players to dedicated Blu ray players may not be correct as their purposes are different.

If you are looking at flexibility the media players have the advantages if you look at quality of upscaling and decoding the higher end BDP have an edge. With the mid-range players it might be closer. For example, the Oppo BD80 which is at 13k (landed in India will be much more) can still provide better BD capabilities but may not have the flexibility in terms of playing from NTFS drives which the media player will have.

There is a separate thread on comparisons with WD Live and Asus Playon which you could use to compare media players. As there are newer players esp. from the storage side coming the prices would get more and more competitive.

If the objective is to view torrent related sources then the media player would be the better choice. IF you are planning to buy disks then the BD player is a better choice.

For example, the Oppo BD80 which is at 13k (landed in India will be much more)

Is the Oppa BD80 a dedicated blue ray player? and is the price for it in india approx 13K?

This thread has the details. http://www.hifivision.com/dvd-playe...89-oppo-launches-279-bd80-blu-ray-player.html

The US price is 279 USD, through Borderlinks it may come to around 17k Rs. ITs a dedicated BD player. You will find others in the same range like Panasonic BD80 and Pioneer ones.

With Blu Ray players you will need to factor in the cost that you will need to modify them to make them region free which will cost around 3.5k Rs.

So once again, all this effort will be worthwhile if you have optical disks (BD or DVD) else media players is the way to go.
