Wharfedale Diamond 10.7 Review

Kittu,

Whats the update of the 608??? Give us an update of your impressions upto now...

All I can say is 608 is bang for the buck. What more you can ask with in 400-450$ range ... Many HDMI inputs 5 in the back one in the front (for some impromptu session like connecting laptop) ... For a beginer setup was really easy... The sonic levels are good ...There is a great bit of improvment in picture quality ...A/V sync is perfect (both SD and Media player- POHD) ... Stereo mode is extremely loud (good for music listeners) ... I am still to experiment on DTS / Dolby audios.. Right now running with 2 FS and 1Center... Might upgrade to a full 5.1 soon :-) ... I have seen lot of improvement after the calibration settings using the reference mic to the exact seating point... Toe-in has lot of sonic improvment in listening ... I can hear the micro-delay and distortion facing the FS straight but with a lil toe-in great improvment but unfortunately my AV-cabin is too huge.. Need to carpet the floor atleast to cover the AV Cabin and FS .....That will reduce the occassional boominess in the bass deptment.... One more thing there is no heating problem at all I am using from almost 7pm to 11pm nonstop still the AVR body is not hot or burning ....:yahoo: .. At this moment my sources are crappy (POHD+AIRTEL) hoping to see some great improvments after I add some good sources (DAC / CD Player ) ...

All I can say .... 608 for this price and features is a total winner.....

If not for the preouts the 608 is good at everything else? So its powerful enough right? Will it drive the Diamond 10.6 or 10.7 sufficiently. I also read in some forums that TX-SR 608 has some volume anomalies. I remember reading somewhere that the volume is too low and its audible only after turning the knob over 50. Anything lesse than that you can't hear anything. Is it true? I'm really concerned buying this AVR. Help me here plz...

That is not true at all ... It depends on your source input to AVR and also the speaker calibration settings.....

Thanks sam9s. As iaudio mentioned, I purchased it as a package which included Diamond 10.7, 10.CS, 10.1, 10.GX and Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver. The package cost me AED 5500 / 66000 INR (using the conversion rates at the time of purchase). Later I sold the Onkyo 608 through HFV and purchased Onkyo TX-SR 876.

Wharfedale Diamond 10.7 if purchased separately will cost AED 3645.

The package I purchased is still available but with Diamond 10.6. See this thread. Go to post number 9 for information on the latest deal.

Could some let me know if there are any dealers for wharfedale in chennai where I can have a demo? Planning for tower speakers, upgrade from pure acoustics bookshelf speakers.

I was in Chennai yesterday and auditioned the wharfs 10.7 at Grand cinema! For music ( classical indian, hindi film music) the mids and highs were sounding great. For movies, dialogues were crisp even without the centre channel. The bass was taut but no replacement for a sub.Was qouted 49.5k ( MRP 54K), is that a good price?

canchi,

Try the EPOS Range as well - EPIC 5 before taking the final plunge

olly42,
I auditioned the paradigm monitor 9 today and I must say I am leaning towards these in comparison to the wharfs 10.7.
Music - mainly classical indian, clarity of the vocals and string instruments impressed me as did the bass of the percussion (mridangam).needed a sub to bring out the bass during movies though!

Friends,

I have been looking at the Wharfedale 10.7, been quoted as below:

Wharfedale Diamond 10.7 Floor Standing 1 pr 54,000 54,000
Wharfedale Diamond 10.CM 1 pc 18,000 18,000
Wharfedale Diamond 10.DFS Di-pole Surround 1 pr 12,000 12,000
Paradigm Ultracube 10 1 pc 56,700 56,700

What do you guys think? Is the above reasonable or is there room for negotiation. I would imagine the dealer is making a killing with the above.
Iam not looking at the Paradigm Sub, too expensive, and may be an overkill for my room size(16 * 11). Considering the Diamond 10 GX Sub, at 32K.
I heard the 10.7 in stereo mode and instantly liked it.
Also, I felt those were better than Paradigm Monitor 7 in stereo mode.
Yet to hear the Wharfes in HT setup.
Pls throw in your opinions.
Thanks :)

Canchi,

My choice would be between Paradigms, PSB Image T6, Focals726 V, Epos Epic 5 and Polk RTi A9. There are many Wharfedale Fans and I am sure they have their own reasons for the same - So please audition audition audition before you invest

Cheers,

Those are horrible prices, they are the MRP! Look at the group buy section, currently an excellent offer is on!
