What influences the sound of a TT?

There should be a counter weight to balance the tonearm, else you can't use it with a MM cart.

Regards,
Sachin

Dear Sachin,

I am having a Philips turntable(Electronic 242) with classic 700, connecting it with Technics SU Z2.

I feel the sound is a bit low. I am new to vinyls, what should i do,

a. should i buy a phonostage from you.
b. should a change the truntable, if yes then which brand should I go for.

I want the sound to be crystal & clear & my neighbors should feel jealous of it as I wanna prove VINYLS is better than CD.

I am already using challenger tower speakers which already blowing good with CD's but i wanna same effect in vinyls.

Please revert back.

after a bit of research, I have a feeling that the ills of my current TT - distortion during loud passages, and poor low end, are because the VTF is too low. My TT has a preset VTF, so my plan is to get a jewellers scale and find a way to set the VTF manually.

The counterweight is screwed on, and Unscrewing would make it only looser, and decrease the VTF. is just sticking something with some weight to the tonearm enough?
