Hi all,
I'm back after a long time. The last time I posted was regarding an upscaling HDMI DVD player. I finally bought a Pioneer DV 220 (but that's for another forum). Now I want to purchase a 32" LCD TV. These are the models I have earmarked... Panasonic TX-L32X10, Panasonic-TH-L32X9, LG 32LH20, LG 32LH35FR, LG32LF20FR and SHARP Aquos A32M37.
Main priority: I want a TV with really good black levels. Forum members owning any of the above said models please provide feedback. At the moment I have hooked up the DVD player to my LG M237WA (23" monitor TV). Picture quality is good but blacks are really weak. The less said about vertical viewing angles on this model, the better.
I also want to occasionally hook up a high end PC to the TV so that I can play games like GTA 4, PES 2010, Crysis, etc. Now I have heard that difference between 1080p and 720p will be negligible on a 32" screen. Will this hold true if the TV is used as a PC monitor for gaming??
Also what is the popular opinion about Sansui? The reason for asking is that I am getting a deal of SANSUI SEL32HBT for 23,000/-
Regards.

I have the Pana X9 (same as X10) and the black levels are okay and when compared to my Plasma its really bad. They is a grey ish feel to all. This is same in Sammy, LG and Sony. So it a curse of VFM LCDs in the range u r talking about.

Apart from the black level, 3 yrs warranty and colour reproduction is excellent in X9. Have heard good things about sharp but havent tested them

I find the Philips 5609 and 5409 much better in black level in the same price band.

For gaming, I would suggest a Full HD and higher refresh rate TV which means u need to up u r budget.

well if u want deep blacks, then forget the ips based tv like lg,panasonic or the philips,u will need a tv that has a lcd panel based on VA tech like the ones from sony/samsung.
for almost the same price of the sansui,u can get the sony 32bx300 for about 24k but in the grey market.

adder: Thanks for the info. Made me read back about them. But the pana has excellent color reproduction when i compared it with sony.

For his requirement:

Good black and contrast: VA panel based TV but not good for comp or gaming due to bad response time and color shifting

Good overall TV with less black: IPS Panel TV, which offers excellent response time, excelent pic quality, no prbs with Comp display/gaming BUT pathetic black levels

X9 is very good but when i comes to black level, its plain pathetic. I dont watch movie in it, only for DTH

So from what I understand, VA panels give deeper blacks while IPS panels employed in LG and Panasonic give better color reproduction and viewing angles. Like I mentioned, at present I am using LG M237WA which is obviously TN panel. What I want to know is whether there will be improvement in black level on IPS panels as compared to TN panels. On my current display blacks have a greenish tinge.

while the ips based panels found in the monitors edge out the VA based in color accuracy, the same cannot be said for IPS panels found in tvs ,most of the panels found in LG have inferior color accuracy, only the high end models have really good colors.same goes to the panasonic.

Check out this link
LG 32LH20 LCD HDTV Review - LG - Reviews of Televisions and Television Ratings - TelevisionInfo.com

It says that LG 32LH20 (IPS panel) black levels were measured at 0.14 cd/m^2. This is the same test score as that of the SONY KDL- 32L5000. Is this black level good enough?[/QUOTE]

well in the same review one can see the viewing angle test, where the LG scores the lowest,if so it using some kind a VA based panel which explain the contrast.
i mean the samsung has a panel lottery,i wouldn't be suprised for lg to do the same, like in the 32" segment.

the sony L5000 is the equivalent model of the el cheapo sony T550A which uses a panel from CPT industries whose tech is similar to the CMO panel used in samsung.

they use a panel called ASV which is closer to the VA.they still have inferior contrast, viewing angles compared to VA ,but is superior to the IPS with respect to contrast.
sharp 09 lcd tvs are just about average.

I also came across 2 LG models: LG - 32LG80FR and LG - 32LG80UR.
The FR model is Full HD while the UR model is HD Ready. Anybody can tell me the performance of these in terms of black reproduction? There are hardly any reviews of these two on the net. One review on naaptol was more like a product description than a review. So any inputs would be much appreciated.
Used as a computer monitor, will there be a difference in clarity between Full HD and HDR?

Hey folks
A particular model of Toshiba 32av600e is available and it is selling for under 25k. It uses a 10 bit panel. Does nyone have any experience with this particular model? (lack of Toshiba ASS aside):D.... What panel does Toshiba use?
