Which amp for the car?

Why 8WG only? Why not 10 or 12AWG?

8AWG is thicker than 10 or 12AWG. It is not like the mmsq with more being more. 8AWG = 8.36mm2 according to an online converter. A 4-ch or 2-ch amp in this range will not pull so much current as to need a higher gauge cable.

I plan to use a ipod nano I got for free or a usb thumb drive only which is pocketable. I dont want any CD's litterring my car ... I will have to skip that but thanks for looking.

I dont want to wait indefinitely for a great 2nd hand deal. If I see that older Alpine unit that plays usb while I search for a new product nothing like it.

Here you go:

Alphine CDE 9881 with iPod Connection cable (KCE-422i))

It will not be tough to locate a 9881. They did sell in decent numbers back when they were launched. I think (not 100% sure) that a Nano will work with the full speed interface KCE-422i. Does the Nano have the usual 18-pin Apple connector?

Correct - so my question was why such a thick cable?

Edit: I replied to that thread. But it doesnt support usb stick :(
PS: I see a lot of Alpine units that look affordable - if I have to get a CD player 2nd had (which I was trying to avoid) then why should I buy this one only? How are the ones listed on this amazon page mid way below ? http://www.amazon.com/Alpine-CDE-9881-MP3-WMA-Receiver/dp/B000OOSITC
