... someone has offered me a used Denon dcd1500ae? What is your opinion?

Hi Venu, I have not heard it myself although I wanted to when last Oct-Nov I was auditioning CDPs here in Kolkata. ProFX is the local dealer of Denon. I called them up, but they did not have it for auditioning. The new price is about 55K and they were offering about 10% discount over phone and told me they would get it if I ordered.

From reports on the net, it's got to be very good, although I have no idea about the sonic signatures of modern Denon 2-channel electronics. Anyway it's from a different price bracket than you have considered so far and hence performance should be much better. In CDP's, as prices go up from 20K to 50K, the difference perhaps is more apparent than other components.

With no disrespect to others, my feeling is that most hifi enthusiasts in India do not endorse products from Denon when it comes to 2-channel, because nowadays Denon has put a lot of emphasis on multichannel and video etc. However, I used to own a Denon CDP (bought in1990) DCD-920 which was at least mid-fi CDP those days, and it lasted me nearly 2 decades and the sound was really beautiful. I believe even today the same may be true (at least) for slightly higher end products from Denon when it comes to 2-channel. Their build quality usually is superb and I believe the 1500AE CDP is still made in Japan.

How much they are asking for the 1500AE?

Regards.

I've heard it briefly although not critically listened to it. The sound is smooth and it sounds "high-end" for lack of a better description. The bottom-end is substantial and it's overall a warm sort of sound. The build quality and looks are outstanding. The upper frequencies may not be its strong suit, but it seemed to have good pace and timing also, and overall it's definitely worth a listen, especially if you're getting it nearabouts your budget, because it costs some 50k + new.

How about marantz cd 17 mark ii or iii version? I was told it is available for 25 to 30K. Is it better than nad cdp 542? any user of the said player may share his views.

regards

I heard the Marantz CD6002 & the CA Cdps 540 & 640 with the same amp & speakers and the Marantz sounded more detailed and very musical to my ears. The CD6003 looks even better :D

Gobble where did you get it for 18k can you PM me the details if possible

ah .. ahh! Been dying for a A/B comparison for 240 days now!! Months back I
tied myself into knots wondering if the CA would have been a better buy :D

Yore a Pal!!

Thanks for the confirmation that I made the right choice and saved 7K in the process!

cheers

defi the right choice gobble and it dint take long to decide either even with my inexperienced non audiophile ears :D:D

we A/B ed some other components as well I learned one other valuable lesson from that with all things being same the single most important thing for the music to sound good is the amplifier had the same amp speakers and tried with diff amp and wat a difference the amp makes its mind boggling

It can make a really good speaker sound mediocre.

I guess Asit has experienced that recently with a change in amplifier he started hearing new things and all the while I was wondering how was that possible until I experienced it myself.

Yes as it is housed in the eartwhile "reference series" chassis, but please audition CD6003 as well as the reviews for the same were not that great as compared to CD6002.

In probably the same way as PM 7001 is still considered much better then the 7002 and 7003 by many.

is the chassis itself the same, or does it just look the same?
