Considering upgrading (from 10 year old 43” Pana plasma) mainly for 4K content and bigger screen.

OS or Smart features don’t matter. I am completely on OTT and mostly watch movies, series and sports. Shall continue to use with Apple TV. No modern gaming use either.

Also shall be hooking to HomePod and Stereo system, so audio quality doesn’t matter.

Hence looking for the best VFM deal for 65 inch 4K LED model. Picture quality is the most important factor. Prefer even brightness, don’t need super-bright, color accuracy is essential. Average plus contrast is ok, don’t need images popping out. Ease on the eyes more important.

Do you think LG, Panasonic or TCL stable might meet my needs better than Sony or Samsung? Specific suggestions welcome.

For quality an LG OLED. Just 4K / DV I would look at a Sansui - 65 inch at around 52k before xchange. It does 4K with DV with 2 yr warranty. But don’t expect deepest blacks etc

Thanks. Shall check Sansui out. I can’t expect deep blacks in LED, I know. I can settle for it as long as overall picture is soothing (to watch long hours) and colours natural. Those are important requirements.

I guess, for you, OLED is the way to go. As OS is of no concern, LG preferred. Sony is awesome too but there is a cost difference, go for it if that's OK.

To me after using an OLED, rest just doesn't cut it. The Only thing that has the power to force me otherwise is my wallet! :D

Soothing to the eyes then pls consider projector. That way you are not looking straight at light source. It’s also dumb most of the times which fulfills your requirement. The below is 4k with 500 lumens brightness and laser light sourceIMG_6972.png

Thanks. I’ve considered projector option, also have a large enough wall behind the current TV’s position, but not inclined due to the following:
- it’s a living room with daylight that can be controlled with curtains only to an extent
- the hassle of connecting a projector each time (don’t want it hanging off my ceiling). I would’ve done if it were a home theater
- the better ones aren’t any less costly than smart OLEDs

I wonder if there are any 65 inch LED TVs with IPS panel under/around Rs 60k. In my understanding IPS has better colour accuracy, wider viewing angles, lower blue light emission and better text clarity making them friendlier to the eyes. Is that right?

IPS TV's have trash picture quality, I will suggest you to read Rtings reviews to gain some knowledge before proceeding further.

lI am aware of the differences between IPS and VA. Are you saying you don’t agree with any of the following? In that case please illuminate with specific points as the cursory labelling above isn’t helpful.

By the way, I did check the comparison of the two technologies on rtings.com since you suggested and it is summarised as under. IPS is hardly ‘trash picture quality’ as per it.

“Between IPS and VA panels, neither technology is inherently superior to the other as they both serve different purposes. In general, IPS TVs have wide viewing angles suitable for when you want to watch the big game or your favorite show in a large seating arrangement. They're also beneficial for use as a PC monitor since the edges remain accurate if you sit up close. However, VA panels are a better choice for watching content in dark rooms, as their improved contrast allows them to display deep blacks. Choosing between the two is a series of trade-offs and qualities, so choosing the best TV for your needs depends on your usage.”
