Hello All - After initial research, I have kind of narrow down to buy 50" Plasma TV from Panasonic.
I need some help to decide which model to buy? Also have not made up my mind on with or without 3D?
Any inputs, suggestions, feedback is appreciated.

Regards
Rohit

but yeah dont compromise in picture quality..if have the budget go for best pq....

Since you mentioned 50", that immediately excludes VT50 series. This leaves GT50, ST50, UT50, XT50 and X50. These are mentioned in the order or merit of pitcure quality.

I am of the personal opinion that GT50 while being the best of the lot, is 20K costlier than the next best, i.e., ST50. However, the extra qualities of GT50 will not be discernible to the standard user. Only extreme videophiles will probably appreciate the enhancements. If you look at CNET and other sites, ST50 is ranked as the best TV on earth today and that includes all plasma, all LED and all LCD models.

So my first recommendation will be TH-P50ST50D. The cost is around Rs. 100k. Buy this TV and then forget about everything else for the next five years at least. While better models may keep appearing over the next few years, I think that there is no cause to worry till OLED TVs flood the retail market at these size and price. If you are going to watch a lot of movies and original blu-ray/1080p stuff, look no further.

If 100k or so is beyond the budget, then the next best is TH-P50UT50D. It is full HD and a notch below ST50. It will be around 75K. This TV is meant for those who want very good quality but cannot afford the top end. In the opinions of experts the PQ of this TV is only beaten by higher end plasmas and the very top end of the LEDs such as Sony HX950, Sony HX850, Samsung 8 Series, etc. But these LED models are so much more expensive that UT50 wins on VFM proposition.

The TH-P50XT50D and TH-P50X50D are the entry level models. The only difference between the two is that XT model is 3D enabled. They will be around 55K and 48K respectively. The XT/X models offer exceptional nee best value for money (even above ST50). Even though the models are only HD-Ready (1024x768), they produce brilliant pictures. For ordinary TV watching, the higher models offer no significant advantage at a viewing distance of 8' or above.

So there are the choices for you. All you need to do is select the TV as per the budget.

@just4kix-Excelent post. Also while comparing features of X and XT i found some minor features in XT other than 3D like additional USB,more file support like VOB,FLV etc,Resume Play,Digital Audio Output rear etc.May not be very significant but just sharing.

Guys, I never received so many thanks on a single day. I am all but weeping. Thanks. I endeavour to satisfy.

Would like to mention specific price points for these models for prospective buyers:

50GT50: 115-118 K
50ST50: 97-102 K
50UT50: 74-77 K
50XT50: 59-62K
50X50: 52-55K (Not sure of its availability though)

From above, GT,ST,UT models used to come with free HT (XH170) of MRP 17K (being sold for 15-16k in market) till 31st August - dont know if the scheme is still available.

I must admit that I was intially inclined for LED tv and had almost settled on LG LM7600.

Then 2 months back, I was in this forum hunting for comments and reviews on LED TV when I stumbled on Just4kix thread on Plasma TV's and that was the point of no stopping.

There were days when I used to log in frequently to read his comments and views.

Thereafter it was 360 degree turnaround for Plasma and especially 50ST50 series.

So, my sincere thanks to Just4kix for his reviews, view and knowledge sharing... May this continue so more time to come..... :) :)

Before buying plasma, I was seriously debating LED or plasma. I always knew that plasma is better than LED when it comes to delivering the picture. But led held many other advantages. Plasma had its share of drawbacks. Reflective surface, ambient light doubts, possible colour washout, etc. were worrying factors. High power consumption, dying technology, possible phase out by manufacturer and spider web type cracks were really daunting, most of all. But I also saw that owners of Pioneer Kuro are still so happy.

Then I thought, what the heck? Let me go with my heart's desire. So far so good. Time will tell whether I have made the right decision.
