I had earlier zeroed on Panasonic Plasma P42V20D. However, after going through the posts here I decided to check out Samsung 50C550. As the price difference b/w the two is not much (only 10k) Samsung looks more attractive due its larger size.

Buzzing / banding issue mentioned by one of the guys here about Samsung is bothering me. Is this a frequent issue with Samsung?

I would be watching Tatasky on weekday and HD movies on weekends.

Which one should I go for guys?

The only difference would be the black level and the contrast apart from that i think Samsung 50C550 is very good plasma.

I would suggest you to watch both TVs for sometime and decide. While Pana has perfect black panel Sammy has some reflection issues(You can change to dynamic mode thou) . I prefer always the bigger is better... And the diff is ideally 6k . Pana is going arround 62 and Sammy is 68....

So I went for Samsung :yahoo:

Why would you say that 42" V20 would be a waste of money?

I totally agree with Sanjay. For a difference of 6k the 50 incher Samsung is a steal compared to the 42 inch Pana. The only thing good about the Pana is the 3 yr warranty. Except for that everything about the Samsung wins. Also that if you try harder you could get the price down to around 65k for the Sammy.

@rahul... I sense your dilemma.

I've been on a man hunt (sorry that's TV hunt) for the last month or so and still haven't been able to decide on what to get.

These were my choices (50 Inch +)
1) V20 Series from Panasonic (P50V20D)
2) 6 Series Plasma from Samsung (PS58C6500)
3) 6 Series LED-LCD from Samsung (UA55C6900VR)

a) From what I've noticed, the Samsung Plasma really is well behind the V20 in terms of depth and richness of colors especially Blacks. Also it's definitely a whole lot more reflective than the V20. Both of these drawbacks were reason enough for me to look away from the Samsung Plasma.

b) The Indian V20 does not come with Infinite Black PRO like the UK V20. Somehow that didn't sit right with me. Might as well wait till next year when the newer panels come out. Hopefully Panasonic won't shortchange us like they did with the V20.

c) The 6900 series (LED-LCD) really blew my mind. Despite the fact that it is EDGE-lit, the blacks seemed comparable to the Samsung Plasma (if not better). I'm really impressed with this product. Just saw it at the mall again today.

Quite simply that the V20 series is way over priced and the extra resolution is of no real significance in a 42" size. The overall gain in picture impact from the 50" screen far outweighs the advantages of the V20 series in a 42" size. If you have the money & budget for the 50" V20, then my recommendation would be different.

Cannot comment on the Samsung 6500 series, but the Samsung 50C550 is one of the least reflective TVs I have seen. It is faaaaaar less reflective than atleast the Panasonic X20 & U20 series.

The C550 is also far less reflective than MOST LG Plasmas out there.

Last I checked, the reflectivity of X10 was similar to C550. Dont know what happened with X20. (Did not check) Did they remove the filter?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
