So i have decided to pick up the Polk Rti a9(Final descision). Reviews say that it requires atleast 150W of power to really open up. My yamaha AVR supports only 110W per channel. I need a very cheap power amp. I was looking at the Ahuja Power amps- Ahuja Sound Solutions . Would these work?

no..

The choice of speaker is dependent on your room size and budget ( not even on the brand or size of drivers. These are secondary ). Firstly provide data about your room dimension. If you go for FS for a small room.. it can be overwhelming.

While it is good to have a powerful amp.. it is not necessary to judge am amp by its power. 30W Class A will be better than 120W Class AB. There are many things. therefore choose your speaker first and then prefereably your amp ( maybe from the same store so you can audition both together )

I dont know about Ahuja amps.. but you may consider Sonodyne pre-power combo too.. it can be a good option.

Blown to bits by those Polk Rti a9? I can understand, since I am planning for them too. The A7's lacks mids, but no such problem on A9's, they have bass, mids & highs in plenty.

A9s for sure requires a lot of power to open up, so something in the region of 200 watts min per channel will be good.

How much are they asking? In Kolkata it is 82K.

My room is about 350 sq.ft

The only decent (if at all) power Amp Ahuja has for home use is 4040. I have used it for a long time with a pair of DIY speakers (8" w, 5" m, 3" t). It was in 96-98 era, when cassette was the way to go. It has power no doubt, but how clean I don't remember now because cassette itself was noisy. It used to move my 8" woofer cone like anything. Came around 6K(at that time) it was a costly Amp.

I don't think a 82K speaker's fate is a PA Amp of <10K. It deserves far more than that. C'mon! you can do it better. Atleast a Marantz, CA, NAD please, if not Arcam, Rotel, Quad.
IMO

Reactor you need to do justice to the RTI A9s you do need a good amp. Your AVR would drive the speakers but with clean power the story/experience is totally different - Please consider these factors before you take the plunge

90dB sens. speaker; 1 tweet, 2 mids, 3 pcs 7inch woofs
Ahuja PA amp
350 sq ft room

hey reactor
the polks though good, imo there are better speakers out there. did you audition the monitor audio rx6? theyre the speakers to beat in that price range. try them out before you make your purchase.

you'd rather play the speakers on the yamaha 110w rather than an ahuja 150w. i would suggest you use your yamaha for now and buy a good amp when you collect some money

Can you list the speakers which you feel maybe better for the same price range as the Polks?

There is a power amp from Norge. I think it is Norge 1200 Pre - Power

Norge 1200 Professional Pre & Power Amp

You should be able to source the new one for 15K - 18K (Only the Power Amp). Going by the review of our forum member who did the Anatomy of Norge 1000, i hope this Power amplifier from Norge should be a better product.

Going by the speaker specification, 90 db, recommended power - 50 to 500W. I am not sure why they have listed the specification like that. I think even in a large room of 300 Sqft, an amplifier with consistent 100W output should easily bring the best out of it.

well, most reviews and users will say that the ma rx6 is a clear winner. its got beautiful sound, very musical and neutral and well balanced. its also very versatile and pairs with amps that are warm to neutral sounding, though not so good with amps that are bright. depending on what sort of music you listen to you can choose an amp to go with

the other speakers you can check out are the psb's, paradigm, dali ikons.

Polk Audio Speakers are generally an easy load to drive. You need an amp which has a beefy transformer and high current design to be comfortable with dynamic power requirements. Don't go with only the power specification, also look at the Transformer details (Power consumption).
